Mahomes is sensing phantom pressure
Mahomes is not stepping into the pocket
The Oline is acutally playing well, Mahomes is prematurely rolling out
Mahomes is hanging Orlando Brown out to try and creating angles impossible for him to block
Mahomes is predetermining his reads. Possibly overthinking things too much
My takeway: If last week's performance was all about Mahomes then the Chiefs are about to go on a winning streak, because Mahomes will get his mind right. Ya'll ready for some W's?
Look at highlights from 18-19, 19-20, and hell even most of last season Mahomes is masterful in the pocket. He's so damn smooth. The IOL last year just got in his head 100%.
The line is not an issue this year, but he's gun shy and doesnt trust them. Yeah he's always been a guy to bail out of the pocket and do something spectacular, but he'd bail because of actual pressure or he'd drop back deep to buy time, but he can't do that this year because teams are dropping back everyone. I think the Super Bowl scarred him. How could it not? The biggest game on the biggest stage and we got embarrassed. Mahomes actually set a record that game for most yards ran by a QB before throwing on the season. It was a given every single snap that he would need to escape pressure. [Reply]
He should have already had his mind right. This is the same problems he had in the Super Bowl. They said they'd fix them and have not. It's terrible to watch. [Reply]

That's easy to say when you're the asshole watching, and not the guy getting knees to the face and your head nearly ripped off your body, and possibly playing on a bad wheel and knowing that if you don't get shit done right now, your team is about to be down.
Until he builds a trust with the line, there are going to be some ugly plays.
Until the defense can force a punt at any time before the 4tb quarter, he's going to press.
Here's what Patrick shoulders each week
Win toss, Andy defers.
Mahomes takes the field down 7 points.
Offense fails to go down and answer with a td.
Mahomes takes the field down 14.
That's a pattern of events that let's you know real quick, if you don't keep this ball moving, the game is going to get out of reach. He presses, things go bad and get worse. [Reply]
Agreed that Mahomes made things harder for himself on Sunday.
What's annoying is the idea that he's been playing consistently poorly. He was great just a week earlier. Some of these habits may appear at various times, but the fact is that the offense had still moved the ball extremely well until that damn trip to Nashville. [Reply]

Last week was a perfect storm of suck at the worst time. [Reply]

I was extremely worried about this the last quarter of the season. [Reply]
We really need to commit to SOME kind of consistent rushing attack to take some pressure off Mahomes and these tackles. It's making it harder that teams can just rush the passer every play and not really have to worry about the run game. It's hard when we instantly get down 14-0 but even still, they need to stay disciplined and just run the ball more. That doesn't necessarily mean just run it up the gut on every first down and then go right back to the pass if the play doesn't net us 5+ yards. [Reply]
There hasn't been a QB who can run around and sling it like Mahomes. He should do a better job of sticking the pocket but I get the desire to get him moving. He can make some magical things happen outside the pocket. The problem is his pocket presence on some of these plays was just way off.
Like that 2nd down play, he could have let Brown push the rusher clear out of the way and he could have escaped to the left and set his feet and had all the time in the world. Probably hits Hardman or Tyreek for 6. Instead he drops right back into the path of the rush. And then tries to escape without making the DE change directions at all. That's pretty much the worst possible path he could have taken on that play. [Reply]
