Media Center>Gaming Laptop on a Budget
Dartgod 09:00 PM 11-12-2021
I'm looking to pick up a new gaming laptop but can't spend a ton of cash. I'm looking to keep it under $1500.

I'm not particularly interested in playing the latest and greatest games. I tend to play older games that I can get for a bargain on Steam. For instance, I am currently playing through Borderlands 2. So it doesn't have to be state of the art.

Give me your recommendations.

The CPU's are roughly equal performance wise. The Intel will be slightly better single core for gaming but then you have the 3060 vs 3070. And you'll notice the bigger screen far more that any Hz difference above 144.

Looking at it sober, the downgrade from CPU wouldn't really be noticable. But the downgrade from 3060 to 3050 Ti is a pretty decent drop in performance.

Honestly, the one jd listed is by far the best specs...

As far as new goes, here’s the ranges you’re looking at and my recommendations. I’d probably say wait until BF.
1660 ti: $750
2060: $900
3060: $1100 - $1300
3070: $1400 - $1700
6800m: $1650
3080: $2100+

Congrats, man. That is a TOP, TOP performance laptop. It's way better than my desktop and mine performs really well even in 1440p.

The screen in yours is also everything you want. IPS and high refresh rate are both extremely good qualities to have. 300 nits is also super solid.

I know you're planning on playing some older titles, but I can't recommend Gamepass Ultimate enough. It's a steal at $15 a month and gets you EA Play on top of the vast library M$ already gives you.

You need to experience ray tracing at high refresh rates, man. It will change your life. :-)

Good call on the Lenovo. Seriously great specs for the price. I've set multiple family members up with Lenovo laptops, and they've been very solid. Not a really well known name, but they do make quality stuff.

Right now, you can buy 3 months of XBox Gamepass subscription for PC for $1. $9.99/month after that, which would start ~Feb. It's actually a great collection of games. If he has an XBox as well, he can play the games on both.
