Just codifies the status quo: if you're not symptomatic -you're not getting tested.

I'm not sure it's as big of an issue as some think. I don't think there's much true asymptomatic spread so it would make sense.

I also think if we tested for influenza like we're doing for Covid, we'd find a shit fuck ton of asymptomatic people and everyone would freak out.

I linked a tweet last night that summed it up nicely.

🚨The CDC no longer recommends asymptomatic testing, even post-exposure.🚨https://t.co/V8BBGK1yzg pic.twitter.com/VvGJMjKW3N

I think we'd probably find a lot of the lingering effects we're seeing with people as well.

So this part has changed?

If you have been in close contact (within 6 feet) of a person with a COVID-19 infection for at least 15 minutes but do not have symptoms:

You do not necessarily need a test unless you are a vulnerable individual or your health care provider or State or local public health officials recommend you take one.

They previously said that a test was recommended in that scenario?

Correct. Previously, the CDC said viral testing was appropriate for people with recent or suspected exposure, even if they were asymptomatic.

And what was/is the reason for the change?

I'm guessing it has something to do with supply lines and reagents?

I haven't seen the reasoning anywhere.

This seems reasonable. I've also wondered if it's so that they can shorten turn around times for those that are symptomatic.

Has there been new info regards to this because the CDC are still saying 40% and 75% of those could transmit? Of course these are just estimates\best guess.

Almost all of the contract tracing studies coming out are finding negligible asymptomatic spread.

But i think it's also kind of murky how many true no symptom pts there are.

Good point and yeah people may think they are asymptomatic but probably do have some minor ones they may not have noticed like their sinuses bothering them or something.
