maybe. Easy words to say now. Doesn’t work, it’s the other guys fault. He’s a politician. I’ll wait on a time table from the scientists.

It was an allergic reaction. Worker has not had allergic reactions from drug use before but they don't know if they have any severe allergies either.

Also it appears to be the same allergic reaction the 2 Brits had...

:-)

Wonder what we're talking about in terms of incidence rate and severity. It clearly seems like people with a history of allergies should avoid it for now. Just curious if this is a 1 in 100,000 kind of deal or much more frequent than that. And whether it's something that is a real danger or something that can be managed pretty easily.

It does sound like the Alaska case was managed with an epi injection, so as long as that kind of thing can be watched for, I don't think it's a HUGE issue at least.

It does make me worry a bit about the idea of the vaccines being given in places like grocery stores, though.

CDC is only saying those with severe allergies that are known. If you have normal allergies like to food etc you can take the vaccine.

Nice chart in the Appendix.

Itchiness is an allergic reaction
An erythematous rash is an allergic reaction
Anaphylaxis is an allergic reaction

The fact that they used epi would make one believe the reaction was more serious, but it's also possible that they were using an abundance of caution when Benadryl would have sufficed.

All areas that vaccinate are required to have quick access to epi in case of an allergic reaction. Overall incidence of anaphylaxis is <2 per 1,000,000 vaccinations.

That's some really interesting data in there, but who is PLC? And I have no idea where they are getting their data from and if it is accurate. If it is accurate.....

I'm curious, when taken in the context of the US (or worldwide) population, has there been any event considered "more than a few"?

No idea who PLC is, but the data comes from covidtracking.com which has been a reliable source of information throughout the pandemic.

The article never says if she herself has taken the vaccine, though. Strange oversight.
