Nzoner's Game Room>The Fishing Thread
Easy 6 07:58 PM 02-19-2010
Searched around & only found the video fishing & BassMasters threads, i know their are plenty of outdoorsman here, so i figured it'd be cool to draw upon the Planets vast experience in all things fishing.

I only use spincast reels & fish mostly large/smallmouth bass & cats. My choice of reels is quite the source of derision from many people i know 'duffer gear', but i haul in my share of 6 pound bass & 10-20 pound cats on that gear no problem. With a little know-how you can use just about any technique you want to on 'duffer gear'.

Berkley Powerbaits are a big part of my trick bag, the difference between those & regular stuff is night & day. My best action last summer came on Mister Twister scented white curly tail grubs, on one day fishing from shore to a bridge pier, i caught smallies, bigmouths, perch & even 1 carp believe it or not... great day. But my bread & butter is a texas rigged Berkley worm, it'll wiggle through any kind of cover without getting hung up.

With cats i strictly bottom fish, no bobber & bait is just as basic... but its always in 2's to give'em a real treat... a shrimp/with a nightcrawler, liver/chunk of cheese etc. Cats are mostly for night sport to me, time to kick back a lil...

So thats me style, how do the rest of you guys get your fish on? What do you fish for, what do you use? IIRC Missouri's trout season just kicked off, anyone getting anything?

I'm all for fashion... but once it starts screwing with my fishing
:-)

I think I'm going to start heading to local clubs with a pair of shears and quietly snipping the hackle out of girls' hair.

Having been out of flytying for some years, I've been waiting for this shift in the market to liquidate all of my old #1 and #2 grizzly saddles. Perfect!

Here's what I love. All of those oddball colors that were rarely useful in the flytying arena are now "all world" in the hair extension arena.

Business savvy is like my middle name, eh? Maybe I just happen to foresee this little shift about 2 decades ago. I hope they've aged well.

Flyfishing is the only kind of fishing I've done since I was about 10. Started tying soon after that. Somewhere I still have that ol needlenose vise grips that was my first vise.

I didn't have a storefront, but tying for others sure helped out in college.

I'm not getting out of it, I just think that my 20 year old hackles may not fare too well if I get back into it. They might be better off adorning someone's lettuce and making me a cupla hundy instead.

I'll run it by you, no prob.

You've described that pile perfectly. Heck, if they do get that money, it might be worth stripping the hackles off the skin and making a pile. That pile looks bigger than it is.

How many flyshops wished they had just saved the sweepings from their bench over the years.

It's not like they have any bids, though.

I've only got one little pack of whiting saddle. I don't really need it because I fish with dries so rarely in Arkansas that I never tie them. As such, I suck at tying them and would just as soon just buy them on the rare occasion I actually need dry flies.

Sold a few on ebay today. Good way to make some unexpected coin.

Don't worry, MO, your flytying compadres would never want to pay what I got for these old hackles. Even if they were new they'd tell me to go fly a kite or mop a floor.

If I sell stuff at normal prices I'll let you know.

Caught a 6 lb 6.5 ounce largemouth the other night. pretty damn stoked. never caught one that big before. actually, i've never really heard of too many, if any that have been caught that big around here. The state record is only 9 lb's 3 ounces or so. Nothing like those big suckers way down south.

caught him the 24th on a shallow diving floating rapala. Good fight!

working on some pictures. hopefully have them up soon.

my older brother reeks of jealousy.

One size bigger than this lure with 3 hooks.

You can use a casting bubble, but that method lacks delicacy for clear and calm waters and you can't mend your line so you'll get a crap drift and put off the fish.
