Dante84 01:00 PM 04-23-2021
developing.

The #Ravens are trading LT Orlando Brown to the #Chiefs, per me and @MikeGarafolo. A new blindside protector for Patrick Mahomes.

Kansas City is trading its first-round pick Thursday night, along with three other picks in the 2021 and 2022 drafts, to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for Pro Bowl OT Orlando Brown and one pick in the 2021 draft and another in 2022, per sources.

Full details: #Chiefs get:
Orland Brown, 2021 2nd and a 2022 6th rounder

That's not selling out. That's being foolish. Overpaying for someone is just that, foolish. We still have other needs and can't afford to waste limited cap space on a guy who will not live up to his contract. If you are willing to spend that much money on a safety, you get a younger, equally talented one. I also am not willing to waste prime Mahomes years on rebuilds because we have terrible, toxic contracts on the books. Mahomes didn't take a team friendly contract to deal with rebuild years. As long as we have prime Mahomes we should never look to rebuild, only reload.

Let me just leave this here...maybe this will make you feel better.

4 of ESPN's top 50 free agents are safeties (3 in the top 20).

4 of PFF's top 25 free agents are safeties.

That's just the top guys. If you go out to the top 100 or so, those numbers double.

There's going to be a ton of safeties available this offseason. The outlook is not as bleak as it might seem.

If we got Brown signed to a long term deal, it might be worth a late round pick to just trade for Williams rights and tag him.

Good young player who might still have a little growth in front of him.

If HB wants top 3 money, you could go get Marcus Williams instead. He'd be expensive but he'd also be an all-star safety that's younger than HB.
Exactly.

It’s all about value throughout the contract.

There’s a much better chance of Marcus playing at a high level throughout a 3-5 year deal than there is of Tyrann doing so, given age, style of play, injury history and other factors.

A short term deal doesn’t give the team cap flexibility so the obvious choice is Marcus in this situation.

In fact, I’d LOVE IT if we could go into next draft with Marcus at safety and Michael Thomas at WR2.

Then Veach can really go to work.

Orlando Brown is top 10 on every list I can find. They need to just lock him up and be done with it.

He's a top 10 LT in the league, like it or not.

If you want a perfect LT, you needed to get Williams last year in FA. He didn't come here so you go with the hand you were dealt.

Williams is getting up there in age. It's starting to show.
