IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

I feel like Mahomes must have some type of marketing, or endorsement deal coming in the off-season, that features his nickname "Showtime" because I can't think of any other reason he would specifically ask ESPN to refer to him as Showtime.

When they said last night that they were calling him Showtime at his request, I couldn't think of any other player doing something like that other than Deion Sanders "Prime Time"

I don't think it has anything to do with endorsements. His father called him Showtime as a small kid. I don't blame Pat for wanting to stick to the nickname his dad gave him.

When he was at Tech, a lot of people called him Patty Ice. I think "Magic" is a very accurate description of how he plays the game, even if people think it's too much of a copycat name after Magic Johnson.

In the end I could see something simple like Saint Patrick being the one that sticks. Sort of like Big Ben. Patrick is a pretty unique first name for quarterbacks. I'd be curious to know who is the most recent NFL starting QB with the first name Patrick before Mahomes showed up in the league.

Maybe he has an endorsement deal with Showtime.

Sherlock Mahomes is also cute, but that was Rich just trying to be clever. It's not suitable.

5 weeks!

I'm going to have to think of some kind of Mayfield/Mahomes meme now. :-)

Batman vs Superman?

Iron Man vs Whiplash?

First round pick for Washington, from Tulane. I recall that he wasn't very good, and bounced around the league, but couldn't even beat out some back-ups as well.

How many great QBs have nicknames?

Brady? The Golden Boy - but that's kinda derogatory.
Godgers - but announcers don't use it.
Manning, Marino, Elway, Favre, Brees, Rivers, Montana, Young, Aikman?

I've heard people on TV this year calling Rodgers "A-Rod."

Yeah, that's what I thought originally, but then I saw another segment and they said it a little slower, with better annunciation, and I was like oh, that makes more sense than gas.
