Nzoner's Game Room>Costco finally coming to the Northland
Bowser 01:22 PM 03-04-2016
About damned time....

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City, city officials revealed plans Friday for a massive economic development project in the northland.

The plans include a new Costco and possibly a new school.

Clearing land has already started for the two-part project. The first part of the project is a new Costco at the corner of 88th and Platte Purchase Drive.

The warehouse club hopes to open November 1. If the deadline is missed -- Costco will open in April, 2017.

The second part of the project includes the donation of 88-acres of land to the Platte County R-3 School District. The land is north and west of the Costco development. There are no plans yet -- but the land could possibly hold a new high school and middle school.

"I always joke, I've always heard about developers they give land to school districts, but I've never actually had it happen to me,” Platte Co. R-3 Superintendent Mike Reik said. “To Platte County schools and our children. But in fact it has happened, and we couldn't be more grateful for that."

The project is near the Twin Creeks Development. The plan is to develop all around the Twin Creeks Development and bring more economic growth to the northland.

Circuit City failed Nationwide. Its midway between I-29 and I-35 along the 152 corridor. When Costco bailed years ago in the Northland indoor malls were going down for the count. Tenants were bailing on Metro North Mall and Jones Penny's Ward had pulled the plug. Cell phone and wig outlets started to fill vacancy then it closed. I would imagine that weighed in on the decision to wait. Zona and much of the Liberty corridor was taking longer to develop mostly because infrastructure wasn't in place yet. Particularly water and sewer that was on KC diverting money elsewhere the bonds had been voted on and passed.
The Charles F Curry Company owned much of the land along 152 and I 435 long before they were even built all the way to I 29 and north to 291 hwy. When he died most that land was purchased by the LDS Church. I took part in the surveys of the land purchased by the LDS. One of the funnest surveys I worked on near 300,000 Ac if memory serves me correctly.

Correct. Antioch middle school. I was in the very first freshman class at OP. But I left for Boarding School after that (Phoenix then Atchishon, KS.)

Metro and the strip mall across the street needs to be dealt with.

Hell yes it will, both them and Liberty will. I already have a friend that says she will quit at Sams to go to Costco.

I guess Sams has already reminded employees they signed a form stating they cannot work for Costco until six months after they leave.

Told her that shit would not hold up and send in her resume.

I don't know much about nothing, but if I had to guess, Metro North mall is gonna be re developed sometime in the near future.

Cruising the mall. I learned to drive in the back parking lot. As did many others. Last time I was back, one area of parking lot there by Montgomery Ward was filled with white vans. Thousands maybe.
