Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Do we want a high priced prima donna?

Is it typical for a guy who got caught using PEDs to get better AFTER he gets caught? Was he using to gain an advantage that he doesn't have anymore? I'm not OUT altogether he's a good receiver (not great anymore) I just think a 2nd is too high

From what I remember reading it was more from trying to heal faster to get back on the field NOT jump and run faster. So not a prolonged user of PEDs but who really knows

He's not going for a 2, they publicly said 2 which usually ends up a 4 and a conditional pick next year.

Most people here think the same. Read the thread. :-)

Well the Cards traded David Johnson, 2nd and 4th round picks for Hopkins and a 4th.

So basically a average starting RB and a 2nd. Veach could send them CEH+MVS+4th for Hopkins and that works for me!

Anyone saying he has issues and baggage......... Do you know who our Head Coach is?

Do you not think our locker room core is one of the strongest in the league.

We are talking about a 1st ballot HOF WR still in his prime (Sure on the wrong side of 30) but he would arguably be the best WR Mahomes has ever had.

Reek was better at speed, but D. Hopkins has Size, Catch radius, Hands, and Route running over Reek.

My issue has nothing to do with baggage or "losing a step". I don't think either of those things are true. You watch him in AZ last year and he still looked good to me. And i don't know what baggage people are talking about.

MY issue, is paying anything higher than a 4th round pick for a WR on the wrong side of 30 who has a history of being disgruntled with his contracts. The guy IS going to look around, see what other guys are getting and want a pay raise. That's just part of who he is.

For a 4th? Ok. Lets talk about it. Higher than that? For a player that is much closer to his decline than not? Who we then have to shell out MORE money for?

And again, i ask, when has Veach ever traded for a player of that age, with that kind of contract? I can't think of a time. It's kind of counter to how he's operated all these years.

31 isn't old for a WR with his route running skills.

His contract isn't big compared to other elite WRs (make no mistake, he is elite)

History of injuries? Before the last two yours he played in every game he didn't sit out to rest before the playoffs. He was suspended last year.

You haven't looked at shit for tape. He was elite last year with basically CP members throwing him passes.

He was taking something to recover from his injury faster. Nothing in his history says he was a habitual PED user.

So.....basically zero baggage.

And lastly, just looking at this roster and its current state of construction, now really is the time to trade up in the 1st and draft and develop a guy. I'm not sure there hasn't been a better time than now, assuming the OBJ contract gets hammered out.

Honestly, would you rather trade a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick for Hopkins, or just sign Beckham Jr. and give up no draft picks?

I'd rather have Hopkins because of lack of SERIOUS injury. OBJ has serious injury history

Hopkins would give Mahomes a legit jump ball guy on the outside. Plus another ELITE route runner with Kelce would fuck teams up.

Meh.

I think OBJ is the better player. And we can negotiate our own contract and not have to surrender picks.

Lets say OBJ "lost a step" after his latest surgery. Then that makes him, what? DeAndre Hopkins basically.

OBJ would too, but with more speed and more draft picks. And maybe a contract we could get out of after a year or two.
