I suppose if you know what you are doing, you will be okay. I'm not particularly lucky (everyone says this) at games of chance. I know about the law of large numbers and how it all evens out however nothing says that it's going to even out in my favor. I learned this bowling when I would leave solid 8 pins and the next bowler would throw one down the middle and get a strike. Yeah, the odds evened out.

I sometimes like to listen to the sports gambling shows on AM on the way to the lake. The 80,000 bank roll. Give them 10,000 and they turn it into 80,000. Sounds really great until you figure their take is going to be about 10%, the government another 40% and that 10,000 cost you 20,000 to start with. If they have the answers, why do they need my money?

And I did say tax on the stupid... There are plenty of people who make bets based on emotion and their system. Vegas loves those people.

I mean he’s not wrong. Most people will lose sports betting given enough time. Toughest part of it is bankroll management, IMO.

Oh I definitely agree with you that the so called "experts" are full of shit. I mean, the shows are entertaining and all but, as you said, if those guys were really that good, they'd be raking in millions, not trying to sell you information.

As to the tax on the stupid comment, if you mean it how you lay it out here, I agree. People that bet emotionally or go "on tilt" as we say, can get into real trouble. I thought you were maybe insinuating that all who gamble are stupid, so my bad if that's not what you were meaning.

Sure, but depending on the person and the situation, so what? It sounds like, as he explained, he meant the "gambling is a tax on the stupid" comment to be aimed at people that get emotional or chase $ making stupid or desperate bets. However, the saying "gambling is a tax on the stupid" is historically a reference to all that gamble are wasting their money (since most will lose, as you pointed out) and therefore, stupid for giving money away for nothing (queue the Dire Straits). My kind of counter point, is that if someone spends that $ as a part of their entertainment funds, and they know the are probably going to lose but want to do it for fun, what's so much dumber about that as someone who spends a hundred bucks (or more) at the bar or playing a round of golf, etc.

As for me, I have my bankroll, I never really have more than 20% of it in play at once, so win or lose, I'm okay. It's mostly just a fun hobby for me (both sports and casino).

His point does stand to some extent. You don’t make money if the fish don’t outnumber the pros.

I'm not sure why earlier post here isn't showing up.

My first bet was $10...

Commanders -3
Chargers - 2.5
Chiefs -6.5

Paid $71+

Not a tough decision.

Commanders and Chargers were a lock.

I added my KC Chiefs for the parlay.

Easy money.
