Give this lady a Darwin award (posthumously, of course).

On Tuesday, the Cape Cod Times reported that Linda Zuern, a former member of the Bourne, Massachusetts Board of Selectmen and a Trump-supporting figure in the local Republican Party, had died of COVID-19.

Zuern died at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston of severe complications caused by COVID-19, according to the report. She was 70 years old and had not been vaccinated.

"She was a strong woman who believed in speaking the truth and defending our freedoms in America," Republican State Committeewoman Deborah Dugan told the Cape Cod Times. Dugan was at Zuern's bedside when she died. "I would describe her to people as a little woman but a mighty warrior."

For months, Zuern, a member of the pro-Trump group the United Cape Patriots, had promoted conspiracy theories about the pandemic on Facebook. She has shared articles accusing the World Health Organization of a coverup of the "Wuhan Virus" and claiming COVID-19 is cover for "globalists" to usher in "U.N. Agenda 2030" — a sustainable development initiative right-wing conspiracy theorists assert is a plot to create a one world government.

Zuern also expressed support for the QAnon conspiracy theory, posting their creed of "WWG1WGA" (Where We Go One, We Go All).

Zuern promoted the use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment of COVID-19 during a Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates meeting in December and questioned whether officials "had looked into preventative measures that people could use besides a vaccine to help build up their immune system," the Cape Cod Times reported.

Peter Meier, chair of the Board of Selectmen, said Zuern cared deeply about others. "She definitely left her mark on the community," he added.

According to the report, Zuern and her mother contracted COVID-19 while returning home from a trip to South Dakota — a state where Republican-motivated policies have let the virus propagate with little control.

They're not 'unaware'

They're passive aggressive.

If people were posting 'just saying, . . . sad is all' posts about things THEY were sensitive about, they'd be squealing to high heaven about the passive-aggressive bigotry. So they KNOW what they're doing. They just don't have the courage to actually say, so they infer and intone and offer a pretense of mock concern.

They've been consumed with tribalistic resentment. Pray for a return to rationality is about all you can do, . . . and I suppose exercise patience.

The Republicans at CPAC cheered when they heard the USA would not hit the goal of having 70% of its citizens vaccinated by July 1st.

Tell me again which side politicizes the pandemic.

Not seeing that. I do see Trumpers getting all excited about vaccine efficacy potentially dropping. And cheering that the 70% number was missed.

A 24-year-old Georgia man who contracted COVID-19 and required a double lung transplant, and who remains hospitalized, has expressed his regret he did not get vaccinated for the virus, which has so far killed more than 607,000 Americans.

Blake Bargatze had told his parents he was putting off receiving a COVID-19 vaccine because he felt uncertain about its possible side effects, WSB-TV in Atlanta reported.

“He wanted to wait a few years to see, you know, if there’s any side effects or anything from it,” said Paul Nuclo, his stepfather. “As soon as he got in the hospital, though, he said he wished he had gotten the vaccine.”

Bargatze was the only member of his family who passed on getting vaccinated, Cheryl Nuclo, his mother, told Fox 5 Atlanta. Once hospitalized, however, he asked to be inoculated.

The night before he was intubated, he wanted it,” Nuclo said. “So it was a little bit too late then.”

Bargatze, who had no preexisting medical conditions and has endured prolonged intensive care stays at hospitals in three different states over the last three months, believes he contracted COVID-19 during an April visit to Florida.

“He had called me that Friday when he got the results,” Bargatze's mother told WSB-TV, “and he’s like, ‘Mom, you’re going to be mad. I got COVID.’”

A GoFundMe page set up by Bargatze’s friends is raising money to help cover his medical bills.

He was initially admitted to ICU at St. Mary’s in West Palm Beach, FL on April 10th, and then he was air transported to Piedmont Atlanta Hospital on April 24th to be placed on ECMO,” the GoFundMe page states, referring to an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine. “Many complications occurred during his hospital stay that caused extensive damage to his lungs, requiring the need for a double lung transplant to survive. Blake was transferred to the University of Maryland Medical Center on June 12th. He remains on the ventilator and ECMO as he waits for the lung transplant.”

Thanks to the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19, the number of new cases has increased nationwide by a staggering 109 percent over the last two weeks. Deaths from the disease, which had fallen precipitously as more Americans were vaccinated for it, have also begun ticking back up as vaccination rates have stalled.

Bargatze’s mother said her son wants vaccine skeptics to learn from what happened to him and to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

“Maybe if some people were kind of on the fence and swaying, he wants them to see what might be the extreme of what can happen,” she told WSB. “Not using a fear tactic — but it can happen.”

I know you like to turn every discussion into a discussion about race. But this isn't about race. It's about the foolishness of people who watch a couple of YouTube videos and decide they don't want to get vaccinated.

I was a critic of anti-vaxxers long before COVID killed 600,000 Americans.

However, since you insist upon making every discussion about race, maybe you'll find this article interesting.

Little Difference In Vaccine Hesitancy Among White And Black Americans, Poll Finds

There is little difference in reluctance to take the coronavirus vaccine among Black and white people in the U.S., according to the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist survey.

Among those who responded to the survey, 73% of Black people and 70% of White people said that they either planned to get a coronavirus vaccine or had done so already; 25% of Black respondents and 28% of white respondents said they did not plan to get a shot. Latino respondents were slightly more likely to say they would not get vaccinated at 37%, compared with 63% who either had or intended to get a vaccine.

The findings come amid concerns in some states over who is getting vaccinated and who is not, with data in some states suggesting stark racial disparities. The pandemic has had an outsized impact on people of color, especially Black Americans.

The survey of 1,227 adults was conducted March 3 to 8. Respondents were contacted on mobile and landline phones by callers who conducted interviews live in English and Spanish. The poll has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points, with greater statistical variation possible among subgroups.

Horace Hill, a 61 year old Black man from Tulsa, Okla., said he had an appointment to get his first dose of the coronavirus vaccine on Friday.

He said his health is a high priority for him, and hasn't had issues with the traditional flu vaccine, and so he decided to take the shot when it became available to him.

His parents, who are in their eighties, received their vaccines about two weeks ago.

"I asked them specifically, 'Have you guys had any problems?' " Hill said. "My father was like, 'No, your mother and I, we feel good!' "

Overall, 67% of people said they had either planned to get a coronavirus vaccine, or had done so already. Thirty percent said they did not plan to get a shot.

While there was little racial difference in who wants the vaccine, there were sharp partisan differences, according to the poll.

Among Republican men, 49% said they did not plan to get the shot, compared with just 6% of Democratic men who said the same. Among those who said they supported President Trump in the 2020 election, 47% said they did not plan to get a coronavirus vaccine compared with just 10% of Biden supporters.

Similarly, compared with "big city" respondents, rural residents were more likely to say that they did not plan to take a coronavirus vaccine.

This is the response one offers when one know's I'm spot-on, but one is too hate-filled and resentful to care.

Thanks for the voucher.

You are an all knowing internet hero in your own mind. Setting up little message board traps that only you know about while the party around you spirals. If I were you I would probably also nit pick semantics and tone. To sit and defend modern conservatism and Trumpism must be incredibly embarrassing.

:-) :-) 'modern' conservatism, 'Trumpism' such a pathetic need to lash out, you generate neologisms to 'redefine' to something that exists only in your mind and assert that it's my passion.

Because you know your actions are pathetic, exactly as I describe, so you need to divert and spew.
