Nzoner's Game Room>Does anyone else think we'll be fine?
Titty Meat 06:10 PM 09-26-2021
Offense isnt going to turn it over this much every game and theres some correctable things on defense to make them a top 20 unit. With some winnable games coming up I don't see reason to worry.

"Fine" needs to be defined. Will we make the playoffs? I can see that still happening. Are we champs? No chance in hell. Mahomes doesn't trust his OL, defense and anyone other than Hill and Kelce. That really sucks. Poor personnel moves have left big peoblems.

I'll just point a couple of things out.

In the Reid era, we've never been a turnover prone team. I think this is an anomaly.

We started the Chargers game down a DE, CB and starting LB. We ended it down those three plus our second most veteran corner. So, down four primary players from our typical nickel sets.

We are starting three rookies on the offensive line and have five new starters in their third game together.

There are a lot of important defensive pieces that are either second year players or new to the team in Sneed, Gay, Baker, Hughes, Wharton, Danna, and Reed. Gay we haven't even seen yet. I think it's reasonable to expect all of those guys to improve as the season goes on. Add to that Bolton, a rookie.

Clyde fumbled, but his ypc was much improved, and even got involved in the screen game a bit.

Niang struggled with Bosa, but who doesn't? The Chargers have a good pass rush and with James are uniquely qualified to defend KC.

If we hadn't turned the ball over four times, we win that game easily.

The red zone defense is the biggest problem at the moment, in my opinion, followed by the generally shitty pass rush. The RZ defense appears to be mostly communication breakdowns, which you could chalk up to so many new pieces. The pass rush on the other hand...I don't know.

Think pass rush is the biggest issue and hardest one to see how we solve, and everything partly flows from it. I don't think Sneed is ready to be covering WR1s and Hughes and Baker were always going to be up and down. We just need to get some pressure and give them a chance.

You can start by putting Jones back at DT. Full time.

It's weird to be sitting here in September looking this bad. But, it's September. It's been said ad nauseum how we have played 3 really good teams in a row, and it's been a gauntlet to start out. Yes, good teams just win, but we've shot ourselves in the foot all season so far, and have not been good enough at all. Browns win was a win, but it was way closer than it should have been by all historic reckoning.

I think that the Chiefs now look pretty human. The defense is struggling (to say the least) and now the offense coughs it up 6 times in two games. We never lose in September but this year we have a losing record in September. Mahomes never throws interceptions in September, but to date he's thrown 3. It's not NORMAL for the Chiefs to look like this.

That said, it's possible that they are just somehow regressing for reasons that are baffling. Sure. But until that materializes, I'm going to believe that this is just some strange ass yips and bumps in the road, but they will get ironed out. We ain't going undefeated, and we'll have a chance at revenge vs the Chargers, and probably the Ravens in the post season. We'll be fine. But it looks like shit right now and it's hard to swallow. Hang in there Chiefs Kingdom, we're not nearly ready to throw in the towel.

GO CHIEFS!

I do think we will be fine. We can't afford to fall to many more games back, but at the same time I think we have won so much that we have lost our edge a little bit. 3 seasons ago we were hungry. 2 seasons ago we played with a chip on our shoulder. Last season we were able to always get by, right up until the end. It may take another loss or two along the way, but having our backs against the wall will force us to unite and play with the edge we are lacking, or fold. I can't see a Mahomes led team folding. It's not in his DNA.

If defense can be mediocre, we will be fine. I try to remind myself that we lost 4 of 6 during our championship season

Staley is a Fangio disciple and his defense hasn't shut us down but it has mucked things up.

I expected an ugly win but with the zillion turnovers we get an ugly loss.

The Ravens game concerns me more in that the defense looked disinterested.

We need to get the effort up for big games and not keep doing dumb crap and we will be fine because we have a generational QB in his prime.

We have the best QB in the NFL and a hof coach.

Our OL is extremely new. Our defense hasn't been healthy. The team is not much different from the one that made the super bowl just last year.

We knew we weren't going to be the golden state warriors forever. Mahomes has a huge contract. We've been drafting at the back end of every round. We made aggressive trade outs of first round picks to get players who helped us fulfill the dream of a super bowl. Including mahomes.

Maybe it's good we come back to reality that we won't be the greatest show on grass forever. But yknow what, we're still damn good. It took shooting ourselves in the foot in the most extreme way to lose to two very good teams, even when we weren't playing at our best.

So let's relax with the claims that we're not very good. Or that veach has not been good. If thats the attitude knowing we will be drafting low every year with minimal cap space, youll be in for a long decade. We are still extraordinarily lucky to have this kind of a team. Enjoy the ride. And keep your expectations in check.

Kafka needs to sit down with Patrick, Eric and Andy and figure out why Mahomes feels he needs to bail from the pocket and run to his right-side sideline to scan the field +/-30% of the pass plays, turning them into offschedule improvs. He didn't do it anywhere near as often in 2018 or 2019. If it sounds like I'm putting all the blame on Patrick, that's not what I mean. I don't have the all-22 to see what's going on with the coverage and routes.

I think we will be fine to make the playoffs but flaws are exploited big time then..

If Andy has to take some time off because of his health we may not be fine..

Patrick is not the problem.
Him improvising has been what makes him special, and his stats show that he is just as good outside of the pocket.

People are quick to see x2 INT's on his stat sheet from yesterday and claim Pat had a bad day..., but those INT's were not his fault. The second one??? maybe a tad, but in the wind... balls tend to sail. It was basically a punt on 3rd down.

CEH is the problem.
Trash WR's who can't catch the ball is the problem.
Players getting the ball punched out is now the problem.
The defense is the problem.

Pat bears some blame. Stay in the pocket.

The offense just burned up and down the field yesterday and only scored 24 points.

So yeah, I don't think "worrying" at this point matters.
