Nzoner's Game Room>Perhaps an unpopular opinion - I don't like the holidays
TLO 08:09 AM 11-23-2021
This is kind of hard to talk about, and I'm not certain of the words to explain why I don't like them.

Anyone else feel the same way?

If you consider this a medium sized doggie door, all of them.

When people that you love are dead and you are single and broke and can't afford shit yeah it sucks. Every commercial reminds you how alone you really are.

I hate the decor nonsense some people have.

My buddy has 5 Xmas trees up. Five...

I hate what people have done to the holidays, not the holidays. Black Friday and the over commercialization of everything Christmas is just fucking reeruned. For fucks sakes, "Santa" is bringing young kids $1k gifts. What the fuck is wrong with people?

Unfortunately, my grandmother is going to be spending Thanksgiving in the hospital so this one isn't going to be the normal family and food enjoyment. It very well could be her last, so we'll hopefully get to make up for it at Christmas.

I've also noticed those of us who did not move away from our family seem to enjoy the holiday season while those who left for greener pastures tend to despise them or have turned them into a mail order spending contest. We tend to prefer to sit around eating and laughing while making fun of each other, like only family can do, while the gifts sit over in the corner.

And fuck the lions vs cowgirls forever!

My stepmom hates it cause two of her kids died during Christmas time.

Christmas is the best time of year. I like the cold, winter pubs, chintz, and I 100% reckon people are in a better mood outside of any guys shopping on Christmas Eve. Food and drink is great, my kid loves it. Fully respect people having no time for it, but I'm a fan.

I typically have some post holiday blues once they are over. Don’t like that part of it.

I love the Holidays.

It is the only time that we are able to get the kids and their spouses and all of the grandkids together at the same time and same place.

My Mother has been dead for 41 years. My Father for 43. And my Brother died 60 years ago.

My wife has a brother and a sister alive. Other than that, our kids and their families are all we have.

I love the Holidays! In fact, I live for the Holidays.

Most of my extended family that I spent the holidays passed away and so I notice the absences more during the holidays.

I still love the core principles of Thanksgiving and the true meaning of Christmas but the commercialism is just too overwhelming. And it starts too soon. By the time December finally hits, I am exhausted of Christmas. Throw in that the stores just play secular Christmas music now so you keep hearing the same 10 songs on repeat. It feels hollow.

I used to be this way. I lost both of my folks in my early 20's and Holidays were really tough. Even after getting married to a wonderful woman and having kids it was pretty depressing. As time has gone on I've focused more on creating memories and enjoying the time with my wife\kids rather than dwelling on the past.

Not having to travel halfway across the country to be with her family helps - not because they are bad people necessarily but the stress of traveling and being around them while they relive their past christmases bums me out a little. They are loud and obnoxious sometimes and there's a lot of them.

I love the holidays and spending time with family. That said, I hate how retail has made Christmas an extended 2-3 month holiday now. :-)

Many people stress out over the holidays as it can easily be sensory overload.
