Nzoner's Game Room>Texans releasing Mercilus
Sassy Squatch 04:04 PM 10-18-2021

Texans are releasing veteran defensive end Whitney Mercilus (three sacks) as youth movement continues at the position, with team starting Jon Greenard (four sacks) and Jacob Martin, according to league sources @SportsTalk790

Houston has been such a mess of a franchise since January 12, 2020. That 2019 season seems to be his last productive season. My hope, if we do bring him in, is getting out of that culture and into ours, renews some sort fire. Can’t expect a whole lot though.

@AaronWilson_NFL: Cut by Texans, Whitney Mercilus said 'It's tough.' Said no hard feelings, appreciates the organization noted 'It's a rebuild, honestly.' Noted 'it's a business' emphasized team wanting to go 'Younger and cheaper' which as he said is a priority for most NFL teams

Wonder if the release is official.

Is he actually an improvement? We're talking the 2021 version, not 2019.

Over Frank Clark? Yeah. An improvement in the sense we can stop fucking around with CJ at DE? Definitely.

I'd be a little hesitant to sign a man named Whitney.

Yeah, but his last name sounds like merciless, so that offsets his girly first name.

I'd be a little hesitant to listen to the opinion of someone named Adolf.

that whole organization is a dumpster fire. It had to be a real drag to go to work everyday knowing it's a sinking ship.

as long as he's not too expensive, it'd be a smart move to sign him and put him in the rotation. At worst, he's a body and keeps others fresh. At best, he's as good or better than anyone else we've got. Win-win.

Will Mercilus (great name) be a Chief this year?

I’d rather save the money, get Danna snaps and wait for Vernon to get healthy and try to sign him.

Mercilus is close to done and Danna is probably better than him at this point.

If Vernon is anywhere close to last year's version he's significantly better than this guy.

He's also gonna get the league minimum. Chiefs have no $$$. Maybe like 2 mill.

I assume going to a team that is a contender will provide him some extra boost in the effort department.
