This is exactly the point.

A merely good pitching/hitting coach might give you a slight nudge. A really awful one can make a really big and negative difference.

If this group of pitchers fails, then holy guacamole, we're gonna be set back for years.

Also, how in the hell has Dayton Moore been the GM of the Royals for 15 fucking years! In those 15 years the Royals are 1088-1314(.45 win percent) that comes to an average season of 73-89. 15 fucking years because he happened to catch the biggest stretch of luck possible and got a WS win the year after a WS loss.

He is the 2nd longest tenured GM in baseball and all but 5 GMs were hired in 2015 or later. He's pretty much the Jon Gruden of MLB GMs.

Glad Edward Olivares is gonna sit in Omaha and rot while Soler, Taylor, Dozier, and the other idiots can see who's the worst player in the league.

Witt Jr. went 4-4 with a HR, 2B, and 5 RBIs. He now is hitting .286 with 12 HRs and a .910 OPS.

I’ll say this about Olivares: at least they aren’t letting him rot on the bench in the majors. I’d rather see him play everyday than be the 5th OF in Kansas City. That’s always a possibility with Matheny at the helm.

But at this point, good lord with Michael A. Taylor. I understand they feel like they need his defense and Olivares can’t handle CF duties at the K. But it’s time to try something new. Taylor has failed. It was a shot worth taking, but it’s also time to move on. It’s not like they can’t point to bad luck or get exit velo or something like that. He just is what he is: a useful 4th OF type who is good enough defensively you live with his weak bat.

Re: Witt, I’d like to see them challenge him with a promotion to Omaha. He’s ready for it, and Omaha is winning, too, so he’d still be “in contention” which we know they value.

The way he has adjusted and dominated AA ball is encouraging. Time to see how the plate discipline improvements hold up against the willer veteran arms at AAA.

Been saying essentially the same thing for the past few years.

It’s time for him to go.

You dont get lucky to go back to back World Series and win it. Especially when you were the best team in baseball when you did it. Fucking moron.

Moore has had 3-4 good years out of 15. Not a good overall track record.

Yeah, 2013-2017 was the result of Moore inadvertently tanking to get high draft picks (Hosmer, Moose), success later in the draft (Holland, Dyson, Duffy) his aggressive strategy in Latin America (Salvy, Yordano, Herrera) and shrewd trades to land players who excelled in Kauffman Stadium, dominated the bullpen and rounded out the team (Guthrie, Cain, Esky, Davis, Cueto, Zo) and of course, low cost, bounce back free agent singings that this time worked (Kendrys Morales, Chris Young, Ryan Madson, Edinson Volquez. Heck, even playoff Rios). He also deserves credit for his scouting and developing players in the outfield (shifting Gordo from 3rd and getting Cain a trainer to help with his chronic injury concerns - which again, shows how important bench coaches can be). I think the only argument one could make is that he got lucky by pulling off a flush with his FA's in 2014-2015 (as he didn't hit on his FA's in 2016-2017), but he deserves 100% credit for building the core of that team. What's wild is that comparatively, many of our top prospects actually underperformed. We didn't get a shutdown ace from Duffy, Dwyer, Monty and Lamb. Hosmer and Myers didn't develop into the MVP caliber studs (their ceilings in their scouting reports), but it didn't matter - as the system Moore developed was so deep we won it all in 2015 anyway.

However, that run shouldn't mean he can operate with impunity. For me, a bad start in 2022 should be it. We need to see signs of life from the young arms like we saw with Hosmer, Moose, Yo, Duffy and Esky in 2012-2013. Unfortunately for him, Eldred and Matheny have a horrific track record with young players. Which was the concern when Moore opted to go with his patented loyalty for "his guys" over a person with a proven track record for developing young players.

Yeah gotta push back on that. He built the best farm system in 30 years of baseball America rankings and rode it to the top of the sport. For a 3yr period they won more games than any other AL team. You can’t fake that - and his trade for Shields/Davis was an all timer.

He gets 100% full credit for those years. As others said, he takes blame for the other 13 seasons. We need to see some young players develop this 2nd half for him to justify seeing another 3-5 seasons as GM.

Seems like we should be adding a few more years of 'credit' to that.

That can go either way. In theory it’s easier to get premium draft picks by being so bad at the MLB level. I don’t think DM tanks, his record is too clear on that. But he got a lotta mileage outta Alex (#2) Moose (#2), Hoz (#3), Greinke (#6).

Though he never panned out as a starter, he got a lot more mileage from Hoch (#1) after a move to the bullpen, too.

We are in deep shit if we can't see any of our young arms develop into anything more than a back end, #5 POS starter.
