Media Center>So....Dune 2020. Cool?
Amnorix 03:03 PM 08-19-2019
I learned today for the first time that a remake of the awesome book (and decidedly less awesome early 80s movie) Dune is being made, and is currently in post-production with a release date of December 18, 2020.

The cast includes many I don't know, but the ones I do know seem excellent for their roles. It's damn near a Marvel reunion...

Jason Mamoa as Duncan Idaho (the swordmaster of House Atreides)

Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck (weaponsmaster of House Atreides, played memorably (and surprisingly) by Patrick Stewart in the original movie

Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen

Dave Bautista (better known as Drax the Destroyer) as "Beast" Rabban, the nephew of Harkonnen

The most critical guy -- the one playing Paul is unknown to me. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3154303/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t3

This film is also only going to cover the first half of the book, which is good. It's really not possible to cover the whole thing in one 2 or 3 hour movie.

Anyway -- I love the book and a really good film would be great. What say you about all this news? Or am I just the last to known (as would be typical, to be honest!)

They’re a mix of discussing motivations for characters in this movie and things that happen in the future of the story (both the upcoming part 2 and the following books).

Up to you.

Watched it...the casting was terrible.

The mother was the only keeper...scrap the rest.

It felt like watching actors in costumes attempting to convince me they weren't on a set...

Completely forgettable movie...

Just saw it in IMAX, and I thought it was fantastic. And yes, I was a Dune fan going in.

Enjoyed it....irritated that I have to wait for the second part....which they could have been working on releasing the movie a year later than it should have.

Why, because I dont have shit taste in art?

The only thing that was visually great was the black healing oil...and the angular architecture of the CGI city layout.

Your hero "Duncan" was awful....that actor sucked. That was soap opera level...

Go ahead...be an emo internet fanboy...wont change that is was an average movie.

He didn't agree with me...ban him!!!

From an artistic Sci-fi standpoint Bladerunner 2049 made it look childish...

Sci-fi movies hinge on stylistic decisions...from the director/DP and art design. Casting/acting plays a critical role...these characters were like cardboard. It felt like actors in costumes reading lines..

If you loved it...more power to you...I wont be requesting that you be banned for enjoying it.
