More details on Joe Thuney's 5-year, $80M deal with the Chiefs: Signing bonus: $17M Base salaries: $990K, $13.9M, $15M, $15.5M, $15.5M Workout bonuses totaling $2.11M
That structure keeps Thuney's 2021 cap number at just $4.5M.

There is no way Veach is done. Paying a guard big money and starting a rookie/JAG at left tackle would be stupid. Veach is anything but stupid. [Reply]

That's why this move doesn't make sense unless there is a LT signed too. For the money, I would have preferred to sign Linsley - almost $20 million cheaper over 5 years and fills a position that we needed more urgently. I like Thuney a lot, but I am really mixed on the move because it is so much money. [Reply]
Having a consummate pro next to a rookie LT is about the smartest thing you could do to protect your QB. I'm not advocating for a rookie LT but putting a stud next to him would be a 16mil/yr alternative to a 20-22mil/yr LT especially if the Chiefs have someone they really like in the draft. [Reply]
Part of the value Thuney brings is he can play almost any OL position. LG is his best position but he played a lot of tackle last year. It gives us flexibility to keep adding to the OL and not having to worry about the position they are best at.
If we add Silverback, this will have been an elite FA period regardless of what other moves we make. [Reply]
