Nzoner's Game Room>****The Official Kadarius Toney Thread****

All things Yung Joka here

The interview is interesting. Kadarius shows a lot of intelligence with his answers to the football-related questions. And a great work ethic. Think Veach was onto something with this kid.

And the good news is the Chiefs are not dependent on that happening like they were entering last season.

It's a no risk/all reward situation for the Chiefs with Toney this season.

Do you think he apologized to Mahomes, and that's why he was in Texas with Mahomes?

Because Mahomes sure seemed DONE with him after the New England game.

Chiefs decline wide receiver Kadarius Toney’s fifth-year option

On Thursday, a report from 33rd Team reporter Ari Meirov placed Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney on a list of players no first-round NFL draft pick ever wants to be on: those whose fifth-year contract options have been declined.

12 players officially had their 5th-year options declined:

No. 2: Zach Wilson
No. 3: Trey Lance
No. 11: Justin Fields
No. 15: Mac Jones
No. 16: Zaven Collins
No. 19: Jamin Davis
No. 20: Kadarius Toney
No. 22: Caleb Farley
No. 24: Najee Harris
No. 28: Payton Turner
No. 29: Eric…

Toney, 25, is entering the fourth year of his NFL career, which began when he was acquired by the New York Giants with the 20th pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. Midway through the following season, Kansas City sent a third-round comp pick (and a sixth-round pick) to the Giants for Toney, who had appeared in only 10 games of his rookie season and only two of New York’s seven 2022 games.

While Toney has made some exhilarating plays with the Chiefs — including the longest punt return in Super Bowl history during the fourth quarter of Kansas City’s Super Bowl LVII victory — he’s also made costly errors and continued to miss time with injuries. He has now appeared in 20 Kansas City matchups, accumulating just 41 receptions for 340 yards and three touchdowns.

They really make that sound dramatic. In any given year less than half the class gets the option picked up.

And it doesnt mean that all of them are done in the NFL either. Just that they haven't lived up to their 1st round pick status.

This! Many of these players will get resigned but not for the amount their 5th year option would pay them.

According to NFL Kick(?) on SiriusXM a few days ago, only about 40% of those players that are traded/released are re-signed. Pretty high failure rate.

Makes sense. They are being traded or whatever for a reason.

Yeah. Though the point of the discussion they were having was that the failure rate is too high; that teams often don't give young players enough time to develop. They gave Geno Smith as an example of a player that just needed more time.

I can't say that I disagree on the whole. When you think about the value of first and second round picks, having two out of three of them not receive an extension from the team that drafted them, or 60% also fail to receive an extension from the team they end up on after, that's a ton of wasted value/resources every season.

FUCK this guy! We need to sign a vet WR with Rice's situation. If WE want a 3 peat, we need another WR who is a vet! Vet, "Hollywood", XW and we are good to go! :-)

Seems wrong to say the Chiefs were dependent on Toney to have a productive year when we made no moves and win the Super Bowl.

If Kadarious has a single brain cell left, he will fall in line with any and everything Andy proposes for him

He's still an extremely talented young player, but if he can't buy in 100% and humble himself... well, bye... maybe your chance to be The Man has come and gone, but do you still want to be a part of this?

It would be really nice if he were a pleasant surprise this season while Rice is out. Even if it's just 3-4 touches per game that are more like 2022.

KaTo had some unfortunate events transpire last season, leading to a loss of confidence.

A dispassionate review of game tapes reveal that several Chiefs players, including Kelce, had drops that were *almost* picked off by the other team.

But they weren't.

KaTo's case they were, and he got no chances after the problems.

That's harsh, but reasonable.

This is a new year, and hopefully a clean slate.

It's fair ta call it fly or die.
