Plenty of truth here ^

I’ve long believed the pill should be available generously based on income, it’s no panacea… but would surely reduce the abortion rate

And thier court system. This allows anyone to bring a case against another person risk free.

On many levels, its blatantly unconstitutional.

Texas won’t force a 12 year old to wear a mask, but they’ll force her to have her uncles baby.

I always find it interesting people don't think that a society that needs abortion for birth control has a much larger overall issue at hand.

We survived as a society without mass abortion not all that long ago.

We live in a society that believes you need to be armed at all points every where you go. We got bigger issues then abortion.

Stupid bill. It is written in such a way that it will absolutely shut down the TX court system. Under the bill, the woman who actually gets the abortion cannot be sued, only those who aid and abet her in the process. This raises the possibility that she can sue anyone who she felt aided and abetted her getting an abortion. Since she now has standing, she can sue Gov. Abbot and each of the 91 sponsors of the bill by claiming they aided and abetted her abortion because they didn't provide free contraception and an adequate social safety net resulting in her need to get an abortion.

By the same token, since everyone in TX now has standing, anyone who opposes this bill can file a civil suit against Abbot and each of the bill's sponsors saying they aided and abetted an abortion by not providing free contraception and adequate safety net. You get thousands of advocates filing these suits and the court system absolutely locks up. You can't have class action suits, each one of the cases is individual and tied to a specific abortion, and under the law, you can tie as many people as you damn well please; you just have to be ready and willing to file individual suits.

The bill is written in such a way that Abbot and his cronies will have no legal recourse to seek recoupment of the cost of their legal fees whether they win or lose since they would be defendants in the cases.

Right because gun deaths from people shooting other people are so damn high.

What a dumb fucking comparison. From conception to the end of your life you have a better chance of being aborted by about 100X than dying from a gunshot.

I have a 0 percent chance of being aborted.
I feel like this is a passionate issue for some. The rationale response is,not only is abortion an issue in society as well as gun violence but also poverty, lack of access to healthcare, out of control cost of education, lack of workers rights and child hunger. But hey, you be you.

Good to see the usual suspects of dip shittery in here preaching how they want to impose their religious will on others-while at the same time preaching about individual rights and how the liberal government should stay out of their business.

Never change guys. Never change.

Don't suppose anyone here wants to give an age of when RWers stop caring about kids lives? Since the covid and school shootings doesn't move the needle at all for you folks. But let a single woman try and do something involving HER body and here....we...go...

Women are the gatekeepers of sex. They have sole discretion of who gets access to their wombs (excl. rape) and have access to dozens of forms of birth control.

Men don't consent to fatherhood by having sex, and they have no say in the creation or prevention of a child.

Meh. They don't really want it gone. What would they have to bitch about after that?

Abortion is a campaign wedge. Always and foremost.

I don't think it is. I don't think it needs to be. Why would they draw all the heat and criticism and risk being seen in future history books as one of the Supreme Court's greatest villains, when they could just keep doing what they just did? Especially now that they've set the precedent, they can just decide not to take the case up in perpetuity.
