Patteeu Memorial Political Forum>Why is Alexandria Ocaiso-Cortez gaining so much attention?
Msmith 01:45 AM 02-06-2019
"Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – dressed in white in an act of solidarity with other women – declined to join a standing ovation for Donald Trump despite his purported call for “unity”."

The whole article is about the speech but the opening sentence of the article is about her. Almost everything she said and did is reported in the news. Why is she gaining so much attention comparing to other Democrats? Is it because she is pretty? a woman? a minority? charismatic?

I can't get that to come up on my phone for some reason, but I did find a clip of what I think is her bootstrap comment. To me it sounds like she is saying that the origin of the metaphor is that it was a joking reference to an impossible task, and that she is comparing that to what she considers to be the impossible task of lifting yourself out of poverty. Is that it?

Regardless of rhetoric: she doesn't believe upward mobility of any sort is possible.

Wow. She is soooooo stupid.

I’ve tried so hard this past year to live without the wealth of knowledge available on Twitter, but this kind of blazing insight can be found nowhere else, so... I’m back! #AOCStillAMoron pic.twitter.com/kB0oDXmArB

She's just talking about the metaphor in that clip.

Widely attributed to The Surprising Adventures of Baron Munchausen, (1781) by Rudolf Erich Raspe, where the eponymous Baron pulls himself out of a swamp by his hair (specifically, his pigtail), though not by his bootstraps; misattribution dates to US, 1901. The Adventures is primarily a collection of traditional (centuries-old) tall tales; using bootstraps presumably arose as a variant on the same tall tale, or independently.

It’s wild that this is still a talking point in a country where the electoral college regularly overrides the popular vote in elections, & the entire Senate is designed to overrepresent smaller, less populated areas over populated ones as a check on the House.

Because she's reasonably good looking and good at trolling Republicans, and especially white people. Shock value. Just like Trump. That is the new money ball. Being moderate, reasonable? Nahhhh. Shock value. That is what sells ladies and gents.

I don't think this thread should be bumped unless it is accompanied by a wet t-shirt (preferably white) or titty hard on picture of her.
