Nzoner's Game Room>Conference Realignment Spin-off: Who should the B12 add...?
Mr_Tomahawk 02:04 PM 12-07-2014
The BigXII shot itself in the foot yesterday with the round-robin setup. 4 of the 5 P5 conferences have a championship game. The higher seed in each of those games got into the playoffs...whether those are the 4 top teams or not. I don't think FSU or OSU are a top 4 team...but that's for another thread.

The Big12 is going to be relying on the lower seed to win one of these championship games from her on out if they choose not to have a B12 CCG. IMO, that isn't a good way to get your conference represented in the playoffs...
The round-robin is cute...but until they expand to 8 teams. The B12 could find themselves in this situation more often than Not.

The Baylor vs KSU was the championship argument is flawed as is the B12 could have had 2 teams in the playoffs...

So....to get the B12 back to....12 teams, what two teams would you add?

Poll to come...

That’s impressive. Also crazy that he’s faced Duke/UNC that many times in the tournament.

What do you define as blue bloods?

For me, I define them as:
Kansas
Kentucky
UNC
Duke
UCLA

Indiana is the next closest but they haven’t done shit for the better part of 30 years.

I’m also willing to consider Villanova a blue blood as their success has been roughly the same time frame as Duke’s (but not at the pinnacle as often).

I voted for the Florida schools. Not because they are the best teams but are the best options for the Big12 to get in the door of the Florida recruits.

I wouldn’t spend a lot of time arguing it either way. But for me personally, a blue blood school should be one that has had success over a long time frame and with more than one coach.

Sources indicate to WildcatAuthority that there will be significant discussions between the Big 12 and Pac-12 this week. It would include four Pac-12 members joining the Big 12.

Arizona only has 1 title.

UConn I think has a stronger argument and probably is in the same vein as Villanova.

That's fair, but would you consider Duke a blue blood then? Their success has predominantly been with K. They had some success before him, but no titles.

Looking like talks between the Big12 and AZ, ASU, Utah and Colorado are gaining steam.

So we are 12 years into realignment. Has any school moved and seen any success in football?

The list: Colorado Utah Mizzou ATM Syracuse Pitt Buttgers Maryland Cornholers WVU TCU. I think TCU is the only one to win a BCS/J6 bowl game. For the most part it looks like the leagues brought in a lot of easy Ws

Hearing rumors of a proposal to merge the Big Ten and SEC, and then add select other teams to form a 131-school ultra mega super conference. This would be subdivided into 8-12 team divisions based on regions and traditional rivalries.

In my opinion there are 5 blue bloods:
Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, Duke, and UCLA.

If you look at wins accumulationhttp://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/nca...instrends.html beginning in 1895, KU was 8th in wins by 1915. Kentucky had joined the top 10 by 1950 and UNC by 1960. Duke joined in 1970. KU, UK, and UNC have been trading spots in the top 3 since at least 1980. Duke finally jumped into the top 4 in the late 90s. Since then those 4 schools have separated themselves from all of the other programs in all times wins. Specifically KU, UNC, and UK are pretty far ahead of Duke.

I used to include IU because of titles, they are top 10 all time in overall wins. IU made their hay in the early days of college basketball up until the end of the Knight era and then has had modest success.

UCLA is among the top 4 all time in tourney success in a lot of categories.https://247sports.com/college/kansas...022-186191420/

Duke and UCLA are similar in my mind. Both had incredible success under 1 coach for a long period of time, but have done little outside of the tenures of John Wooden and Alphabet Soup.

Finally, this site shows one way to rank college programs since the tournament field expanded to 64 in 1985. Same story there. Duke has had the greatest success, followed by UNC, KU, and Kentucky. https://bitterwhiteguy.substack.com/...um=reader2&s=r

So KU, UNC, UK, and Duke are blue bloods to me, and UCLA is just in.

Utah lost the Rose Bowl this past season and has 3 10 win seasons since they joined the PAC-12. Whittingham is a good coach.

A&M won the Orange Bowl in the 2020-2021 season.
