Media Center>Ed Harris takes Top villain role in HBOs "Westworld" reboot
Deberg_1990 03:51 PM 08-11-2014
Sweet. Loved this film when I was a kid. It's ripe for a reboot.

Doesn't sound like he's playing the Yul Brenner role though

Ed Harris is coming to series TV: The Abyss and Apollo 13 actor has signed on as the Big Bad in HBO’s Westworld reboot.
The four-time Oscar nominee’s character is called The Man in Black, and is described as “the distillation of pure villainy into one man.” He joins previously cast star — and fellow series television newcomer—Anthony Hopkins, along with Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, and Shannon Woodward.

The Warner Bros.-produced sci-fi pilot produced by J.J Abrams, Jerry Weintraub, and Bryan Burk updates Michael Crichton’s 1973 classic film about a theme park where androids fulfill dark human desires. Harris’ description might sound like he’s playing the Yul Brynner killer-cowboy robot role, but it seems like actor Rodrigo Santoro was tapped for that part—and online production rumors suggest The Man in Black is actually a human character who sadistically abuses the androids.

Harris will soon be seen the feature film Run All Night, starring opposite Liam Neeson and Joel Kinnaman. Harris won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy for his work in HBO’s Game Change.

One more day until the finale. I would not be surprised if:

Ford dies

Logan dies

Elsie turns out to be alive, in control of Ghost Nation, and plans to tell everything she knows to the security guy; Buck PlankChest. Or Gristle McThornBody . Or Slate SlabRock. Or Trunk SlamChest . Whatever the guy's name is.

William gets outed as the MiB

The host that Ford was making when Bernard killed Theresa was a new Bernard

New host Bernard is placed in charge of the park by the board after Ford dies

The maze is nothing more than a bit of code left in the hosts by Arnold to function as a path to sentience, and the reveries were part of that, but Ford doesn't want to admit to anyone that he hasn't been in complete control of the hosts

Maeve actually does escape from the park right at the end of the episode

What if Charlotte is Maeves robot kid all grown up some how & they figured out how to implement aging?

Ha I doubt it but let's throw it all out there

What if Charlotte is Arnold's daughter or granddaughter?

She has to be related to Arnold.

A little heavy on the exposition but I enjoyed it. I had given up on the idea of seeing a host rebellion by the end of the season but they squeezed it in there rather nicely. Lots of great bits in there. Samurai World was a nice touch. I didn't think Bernard would survive a head shot, should have known better. It did surprise me to see Ford go out the way he did. That was very well done.

I agree, it was pretty heavy on exposition, but also on action.

I'm not sure I understand why Ford had Bernard shoot himself in the head in the first place. What did it accomplish, exactly?

Think the Man in Black will survive? Odds do not look too good for him, but seems early to off him. One broken arm and a bullet in the other, and the entire Sioux Nation bearing down on him, but maybe he pulls some next level badass.

That was pretty badass.

There's an ARG that has popped up. Check the subreddit. People we presumed dead may not be...

I think he was trying to let Bernard know that he wasn't as free as he thought he was, and give him some more suffering to help keep him on his own path to the center of the maze. I don't think those hosts were Ghost Nation. I am still holding out for Elsie and Biff Thunderclap to be holed up with Ghost Nation at a remote station in the park. I think that was Maeve's army that she freed up from cold storage as part of Ford's final narrative. Remember the annoying guy that says 'fuck' a lot found cold storage empty right at the end. Could be MiB just plays dead and the hosts run past him to storm the gala. They are just about zombie-ish.

By the way, next season I'm avoiding discussion of this show like it's the plague.

The two biggest twists were spoiled for me because Reddit figured it out by the 2nd episode.

The one that shot MIB/William was Clementine. That was cold storage, not ghost nation. Ghost nation uses bows and arrows anyhow.

Did anyone notice that Wolf in the beginning when Teddy was remembering the massacre? What was that all about?
