Both together just kills the spacing offensively.
KJ being such a shitty rebounder negates much of the benefit of having another big on the floor.
Bill Self has forgotten more about basketball than I’ll ever know, but I’ll never understand his opinion of KJ.
I get riding with him when he’s effective like he was against Duke. But it was clear pretty early that this wasn’t a “KJ” game.
Not having Griffen probably made it more difficult to bench KJ tonight too. I'd have just gone with Flory though. His talent could have made a difference tonight. [Reply]
Pretty incredible how McDermott’s gameplan around Self always revolves around “find the guy on KU’s squad who can’t make an open shot and let him shoot whenever he wants to.”
Worked tonight, would have worked without the Remy Martin joker card we had in 2022. [Reply]

If it wasn't clear before now, we were extremely fortunate Kalkbrenner got hurt the game before that or I think the outcome of that tournament would probably have been completely different. That was a very good Creighton team with him in the lineup. [Reply]

That’s just the universe making things right for taking Simien away in 2003, Embiid in 2014, and Doke in 2017/2019.
I’m confident we lost at least 1 title due to that collection of injuries. [Reply]
My high school basketball coach is one of Creighton's assistant coaches now. I wonder if he came up with the genius plan of letting Harris shoot as much as he wants and just not let Hunter touch the ball except up top. [Reply]

Oh, I'll never apologize for a bit of luck in that crapshoot of a tournament. Such a huge part of any successful run in it. [Reply]

But when POP ISAACS 10-15 and 6-9 from 3 you just probably aren't going to win. That guy is a human bricklayer vs any team but us apparently.
How did he get punked when we didn't even try to give him the ball the entire game? He got one touch in the post and it was the first possession of the 2nd half (leading to an open three). They ignored him after that and Self didn't even attempt to involve him in plays.
The problem was McDermott basically didn't guard KJ (or Harris) and took that strategy to an extreme in a way we hadn't seen any team do since last year. [Reply]

If we simply switched Hunter with a guy like Jeff Withey we would be so much better. [Reply]

He seemed to have a weird athletic profile. He was a fast leaper but he wasn't very agile or fast. Most quick leapers are agile & fast even if they don't have a huge max vert. [Reply]

Basketball was definitely the sport for him. [Reply]
