YOUNG AMERICANS
The USMNT was by far the youngest team to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, garnering valuable experience going through the rigors of World Cup qualifying. Through 14 qualifiers, the USA Starting XI came in at an average of 23.82, almost two years younger than the next closest team, Ghana at 25.67. Together, the other 31 participating teams averaged a Starting XI age of 27.5 through qualifying, nearly four full years older than the U.S. Sources say this is one of the youngest, but most talented teams the U.S. has ever fielded. While they may not win the world cup this year, they may garner the experience needed to make a serious run on home soil in the year 2026 when the World Cup comes back to North America.

Yeah I Just realized that, why are they saying because Germany took the lead, that spain needs to equalize? They just said too the commentator imagine the 2010 world cup champions being knocked out in the group stage. wtf.

VAR does it's job. Did not see that in realtime.

England/France/Spain all on one side of the bracket.

Argentina/Brazil on our side. Netherlands R16, Argentina, R8, Brazil Semis. If being optimistic, that's our road to the finals.

They may have been mistaken thinking Spain was in peril, or they may have implicitly meant that Spain had to equalize for Germany's win to mean anything for THEM.

Japan is racist country. Every single player and coach is of the same race :-)

That country has to have the most homogeneous population of any large country in the world

It's just kind of strange.

No. Defensive systems have made soccer powerhouses vulnerable to teams that defend most of the game and get lucky on a few counterattacks. Japan and Costa Rica have ZERO talent compared to Spain/Germany, and that's not even getting into the depth of their rosters. It's just the way the game has become. I expected this after the last World Cup.

In the 1970s and 80s, the powerhouse teams would just roll opponents over. Defensive strategies weren't as good as today.

So the real question is. Did Spain throw so they could get Morocco in the Round of 16 and avoid Brazil in Quarters? :-)

Only way on their side of the bracket they face France or England is if they make it to semi's.

Very Likely Spains path to the semi's is Morrocco, and Portugal....

So is Germany being eliminated as surprising as I think it is? Because I feel like Germany's pretty much always good.

Chances of Australia beating Argentina - perhaps you can illustrate this to me as an NCAA Basketball tournament upset. Is that like a 15 beating a 2 or something?

Germany, Belgium, Mexico out. Spain a hair’s breadth from being out. Wild tournament

Yeah TBH - If Spain hadn't scored first and went up 1-0, and then Japan making an insane strike to equalize and then that crazy 2nd goal, I think you could make the case they were throwing. Mueller from Germany seems to think they threw though "We can't accuse anyone of anything, yet" lol
