Dante84 01:21 PM 04-29-2021

Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

More on NFL Live now....

#Packers GM Brian Gutekunst to ESPN: "As we've stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond. Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team."

Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

The Packers are aware of his feelings, concerned about them and have had team president Mark Murphy, general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur each fly out on separate trips to meet with Rodgers at various points this offseason, sources told ESPN.

"As we've stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond," Gutekunst told ESPN. "Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team."

Rodgers has not budged this offseason, but neither have the Packers, who have made it known they are not interested in trading Rodgers anywhere.

The San Francisco 49ers called the Packers on Wednesday night, a source told ESPN, and the Los Angeles Rams inquired about Rodgers in January before they traded for Matthew Stafford.

The Packers quickly dismissed the Rams' overtures, the source said.

The Packers have offered to extend Rodgers' contract, sources told ESPN.

Rodgers is unhappy for a variety of reasons, with some of it dating back to last year's draft when the Packers didn't inform him before trading up to draft a quarterback with their first-round pick. Some took this as a sign that his days in Green Bay could he numbered.

He also is at a different point in his personal life, having recently gotten engaged to actress Shailene Woodley. Rodgers also has hosted "Jeopardy!" and said it would be a dream to become the full-time host. He could play football and host Jeopardy! together.

Rodgers has made cryptic comments about his future in Green Bay, but he has told others that he does not want to return.

On draft night, the Packers' biggest issue isn't who they land, but whether they can keep the former NFL MVP.

Rodgers' contract contained a $6.8 million roster bonus due in March. It could have been converted into a signing bonus that would have freed up more than $4.5 million in salary-cap space for this season but instead it "vested as scheduled," a source told ESPN at the time. It's listed as an automatic conversion in Rodgers' contract but even that has to be signed off on by both parties. It's not known if the Packers tried to convert and Rodgers refused to sign off on it, or if they did not attempt a conversion.

Elway saw three seasons of Mahomes and said "fuck this"...passed the buck off on some other sucker. He's always been a greasy used car salesman...

Glad KC doesn't have to resort to shit like this to get to a SB...

What do you think would happen in Goodell's NFL? Complete disqualification is my guess...game ejection of every "greasy" player at the very least.

I'm sure MHM will find a semi-clever saying like "creative competitive advantage"....it's cheating by every definition. They deliberately cheated...own it.

Oh... I have never tried twisting this one. I remember watching that game live and thinking 'great, someone is getting ejected'. Do I think that Denver was the first or last team to do this? No... doesn't excuse it either. I'm sure there are all sorts of little advantages that teams do like this hoping not to get caught. I'm sure even your mighty Chiefs have done something questionable in the past. But, yeah this deal - was surprised nothing happened with those players by the refs.

Wasn't that the game with the phantom false start in the 4th quarter?

Greasing their jerseys...to run block for a RB they couldn't afford without skirting the cap.

"Legit..." - Every Doink fan in existence

They have yet to win a legit title... But it doesn't bother me anymore. We have Mahomes, Reid and Veach. We'll continue to bury those clowns with or without Rodgers, in route to more Super Bowl Titles!

Beating Denver when they’re bad is great. Beating them when they have hope is even better.
That may be the case, but so many of those fans are still uppity from the Elway and Manning years. They think they're owed a winning franchise again. Like, "Okay, we did some losing... now is where we come back fully loaded for Super Bowl contention, right?"

I'd rather see that attitude disappear from the fanbase entirely. Sure, they can get close and perhaps even make the playoffs on occasion, but until they start recognizing that Mahomes and KC = Daddy, they need to keep losing. Might take awhile for them to drop that sense of entitlement.

Progress is being made, though. They really did get their hopes up when Fisher and Schwartz got cut. The Orlando Brown trade did quite a bit to sink into their skulls that Veach is a wizard. Another offseason in which KC extends some of their starters and makes one or two hot free agency moves may be all it takes for them to just give up on waiting for the salary cap to start ripping the Chiefs apart

Well, the team is a legit QB away from kicking some ass.

The worst thing about that is that the officials stopped the game to clean up the jerseys so that no cheating player missed one snap.

If they are not going to get disqualified because it is a playoff game, the referees should have least kept the play clock running.

The 1997 Broncos were a great team. Probably better than the 1997 Chiefs to be honest. Maybe starting Rich Gannon would have made a difference.

I am not sure the Chiefs would have beat the Steelers at Arrowhead the next week or the Packers in the Super Bowl. Chiefs lucked out to win the division with Stoyanovic making the 54 yard FG to beat Broncos at Arrowhead and Jerry Rice returning early from his ACL injury and having a good couple of plays against the Broncos on MNF late in the year before he reinjured the knee.

It does suck that they cheated with the intentional use of foreign substance on their jerseys and faced no consequence at all for intentionally cheating. the referees went out of their way to have no consequence. That may be why the NFL treated the Broncos so shitty last year and made them play without a QB.
