Self has shown he won't sacrifice defense for offense, as far as minutes. He doesn't value shooters as much as many other softer coached teams. I haven't watched enough of the new guys to form a strong opinion either way but Self likes physical, hard nosed kids who can defend. Coming into his Jr season the word on thr street was Dick was a gifted scorer but had work to do on defense. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rice get double the minutes of Dick if he fits that bill. Early comps on Rice I've heard are Wayne Selden. [Reply]

The Selden comparison seems spot on for Rice. Hopefully, Selden as a junior and not Selden as a sophomore.
Conner Teahan was a TA in one of my marketing classes. I bumped into him right before the 2013-2014 season. I asked if he went back for the alum scrimmage. He said no, but the freshmen were incredible (Wiggins, Embiid, Mason, Selden, Frankamp, Greene).
I asked which one was the best (expecting Wiggins as the obvious answer at the time). He said “Depends on who you ask, but Selden is clearly Coach’s favorite”. [Reply]
