It was the second episode...

I get that, I really do. But I just have to ask; is there nobody at AMC that can write consistent strong or interesting women on either show?

Carol's character has grown, Michone as well so it looks like TWD writers have a clue. But good gravy, it's like they went back to the Lori / Andrea model from season 2 for female characters in FTWD.

You have to keep in mind that these characters know a lot less about what's happening than we do, and even less than the characters in the first episode of the original Walking Dead did.

The ex-wife doesn't know what's happening, the daughter hasn't seen a zombie and has no reason to believe that her boyfriend is doomed, the main woman is still not entirely sure she didn't murder someone. It's a fundamental flaw in the concept of the show, but it's not a problem with the depiction of the female characters.

I remember reading an interview a looooong time ago, and kirkman stated "we will never find out how the virus/sickness/whatever started.

I think that's why i'm not really disappointed. and this past week was def more entertaining than the premiere. ready for the dumbass daughter to bite it.

I have to agree. The first week was a little slow but I thought it was good. Second week was much better. I think the 3rd week is going to be awesome. Wish they wouldn't have put a hiatus with just 2 weeks in but beggars can't be choosers. Compared to the Walking Dead I like this show much better already. Better acting and we eventually get to see the shit hit the fan.

Walking dead had a pretty good first season and the season where they first came to the farm but the only reason I keep watching now is zombies. The acting is shit and so is the story line.

It makes sense IMO. If you reveal the cause then you automatically create the endgame, and the plot has to tend toward it, making the end of the show inevitable. And in this case, the end of two shows.

With that said, I'm really liking it so far. Yea, some of the characters are annoying (I was audibly saying, "Shut up, woman!" to the ex-wife character while watching), but that's better than no emotion towards them at all.

I am quite sure it all started in Purgatory.

After reading some of the online reviews, it appears that the biggest gripe is that the show has killed off three black characters! RACISTS!!!

It's just ok. I'm not really looking forward to watching it like I do the original.

The story in the original is infinitely better, btw. So far all we have are liberals running around and whiney kids with drug issues.

They've been following the comics almost to the letter on TWD. I suppose if you're unfamiliar with it or just 'watch for zombies' then you'll probably like the spinoff more.

I think the barber shop owner is going to be one hell of an antagonist.

Not quite Shane good, though.

By the way, at the end of the last episode, they did something that drives me nuts in shows like this:

Daughter: Mom, what's happening?

Mom: *silence*

Daughter: Tell me what's going on.

Mom: *moody look; stare out window*

Daughter: (should have said)

This in a nutshell has been my frustration with both TWD and FTWD. All hell is breaking loose or the world has ended, by all means keep things quite and don't tell your loved ones what you have seen or had to do.

I will credit where it's due though. In the scene where Mom (I forget her name) has to kill walker principal it took a few hits to the head. My guess is that he's a "new" walker and his skull is not rotted away. Nice little detail, at least I'd like to think that was what they were going for.
