Especially not on 4th down when you're about to get off the field in a huge spot.
Jones also took forever to get off of Ryan and was jawing the whole time. The refs saw it and were already primed to throw the flag.
Of course Ryan is going to jaw back. He wants Jones to flip out and get a stupid penalty. A veteran like Jones has to understand the situation and not act like an idiot. [Reply]

“It was abusive language towards an opponent,” Smith said.
“And that was it?”
“Yes,” Smith said.
“Can you elaborate on exactly what he said?” Teicher asked.
“No, but it will be in our game report.”
“Did it involve profanity?”
“It was just abusive language, nothing more specific than that,” Smith said.

And the reason there is no consistency is because it’s totally subjective and refs make the judgement call between the hundreds of plays with smack talk and one that happened to cross the line, and then the nfl decides to throw the harshest penalty out there for a non spot foul. [Reply]

Millions of dollars were bet on this game. If you're going to make one single call that shifts those millions that dramatically, then the people who put their hard earned money on the line have a right to know exactly what went into that call.
If you're going to get into bed with gambling, the level of transparency needs to be crystal clear.
Stop protecting the refs, letting them get away with saying they're "unable to elaborate". Make them tell the public what happened.
The whole thing just stinks and if you want conspiracy theories then this is how you get them.
If you don't want to lose money, don't bet...period. Just sayin'. [Reply]
