So there's an article on NFL network saying that Orlando Brown is expected to sign for 6 years $145 mil.
That comes to $24.16 mil/yr and makes him the highest paid offensive lineman in football. It also would give him the 19th highest salary per year in the NFL
How would you feel if that is the contract he ended up signing?
I'm fine with it. He is a top 5 LT and he's only 26 next season. A young great LT is a guy you can't let leave. [Reply]

Cam Erving says hello.
You can argue it’s even more important for the Chiefs given that Mahomes is the most valuable commodity in the entire sport and LT is his most crucial protector. [Reply]

And why would Veach trade a 1st round pick for Orlando Brown and then give up on him after a year to re-sign the guy who he traded a 1st round pick to replace? [Reply]

Possibly for the same reason he traded premium picks for Frank Clark… [Reply]
Per league conversations, I'm told stalemate with Orlando Brown and Chiefs centers on Brown seeking to reset market at upwards of $25M/year. Chiefs unwilling to go there despite their strong feeling for him.
Also, KC has flexibility to use tag in '23 with future cap situation.

If he's going to sit out, what difference does it make? Either way, you are calling Eric Fisher. [Reply]

If you are Tom Brady then his worth is higher for a LT.
Either way this guy wants to reset the LT market...yet hes like thr 15th best LT. Just ridiculous. Dont pay him ANYWHERE near what he wants. Go kick rocks.
A "floating" Qb like Mahomes makes the tackle spot that much more important not less.
You traded essentially a 2nd round pick in value for him, can get 2/3 years of LT play for whatever 2 years of the tag plus his salary last year are, then tag and trade him.
Let him play on the tag. He's not gonna "sit out".
He may not show up for any of camp, so you take the risk of having your QB playing week 1 with a LT that you haven't seen for a while, which isn't ideal, but at this point this is where you are.
This is where the whole "we're waiting on him to get an agent" thing fucked the Chiefs. Had they known (I'd guess they had an idea) his demands prior to the draft, you could have wheeled and dealed a little bit and got him traded or something if you didn't plan to pay him and pivoted. [Reply]
The best GM's in the league pivot when they get new information. Well, we have that now, so do what you have to do.
I'm a bigger fan of OBJ than alot here I guess, but you can't just blow the guy out contractually, so do what you gotta do. If that's playing on the tag then trading next year, or letting walk next year, so be it. [Reply]
