Nzoner's Game Room>Chiefs Trade for OT Orlando Brown
Dante84 01:00 PM 04-23-2021
developing.

The #Ravens are trading LT Orlando Brown to the #Chiefs, per me and @MikeGarafolo. A new blindside protector for Patrick Mahomes.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 23, 2021

Kansas City is trading its first-round pick Thursday night, along with three other picks in the 2021 and 2022 drafts, to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for Pro Bowl OT Orlando Brown and one pick in the 2021 draft and another in 2022, per sources.

Full details: #Chiefs get:
Orland Brown, 2021 2nd and a 2022 6th rounder
Ravens get: 2021 1st, 3rd, 4th and 20221 5th

If the Chiefs won the SB, which of their offseason moves would they still have made?

1000 posts in just a couple of days. Let's go! (CPers are a manly lot.)

Would not mind seeing the Chiefs play their first game vs. the Ravens, even if it is a road game. What better way to welcome Brown aboard than with a blowout of his former team in his first regular season game as a Chief? AND playing the position that he wants to play. :-)

But we got back a 2nd this year as well. And the 5th is next year. And we had a 6th coming back.

So we traded our 3rd and 4th this year for a second this year. Pretty much every team would do that if offered.

So, in essence, we get Brown for our #31. Two years of a Pro Bowl tackle (one year on rookie contract, and one on a franchise tag if can’t work out extension) for a late first round pick.

You don’t think that’s worth it even if they don’t get a long term deal done?

Guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree on that one. Veach absolutely fleeced the Ravens on this trade.

Yep. No price is too high to protect the blindside of the NFL's premier player.

I think Schwartz would be gone for sure. Not sure about Fisher. They would have needed a starting LT anyway (don't care what Veach said in February... Fisher wasn't going to be 100% to start the season) so my guess is they'd try to opt for some additional cap flexibility and still cut Fisher.

It's pretty obvious that the Chiefs were a little frustrated that the offense last year, while still potent and explosive, was prone to stalls more often than in 2018 and 2019. Had we won the Super Bowl, I'd like to think Veach and Reid would be wise enough to know that a "Run it back again" campaign wouldn't be quite as successful.

I still disagree with this sentiment.

The Laremy Tunsil trade + contract fucking crippled the Texans. And THEN O'Brien traded away Hopkins, and now there's the fuckery of the Deshaun situation.

There IS a price too high for a LT. The Texans showed us that. In the case of our Orlando Brown trade, should the disaster occur in 2021 with injuries and we go 4-12 or something like that, we don't lose our high 1st round pick next year.

Blindside protection for your awesome ass QB is great and all, but if you neuter his defense and make the offense one-dimensional in order to get that protection, it kind of goes to waste.

This is fair. It's possible that, if they had pulled out a SB win they would have been more patient with Fisher, maybe it works out, maybe we're scrambling in November.

But I think no matter what, 'must run' was a glaring need to be addressed. For as potent as our offense was, those 3rd and 1s or similar situations were desperation at best and stone failures at worst.

Obviously, it wasn't a catastrophic flaw, but it really helps to have the horses to do the fundamental things competently when the need invariably arises.

You’re basically comparing O’Briens intelligence to Veach’s.

Bill is a legit fucking moron.

Veach will get a deal done.

My guess is Frank Clark has another disappointing year, and we get out of that deal, and a big chunk of that goes to Brown.

See your point, but can't agree completely. Theoretically, I guess you could overpay to the detriment of your team. But Watson ≠ Mahomes. And Veach obviously did NOT pay too much. (Also glad Veach injected the teams' potential with Viagra and didn't neuter anything.) 1000 anyone?

Biggest Super Bowl fatal flaw has been addressed (offensive line).

Now time to address arguably the second biggest flaw exposed in the Super Bowl... upgrading the non-Tyreek/Kelce pass catching options.

Which given our SB window is now nothing wrong with that. And KC should be in the driver's seat for locking him up. But they evidently don't have a contract in place. So its not like the trade itself locked up a great talent on a several year team-friendly deal.

That deal still needs to be made and will cost at some point.
The cap is about to blow up, and no matter what, you pay for a quality LT, and also no matter what, you want a quality LT protecting Mahomes.

I'd bet the house we extend him. Maybe not until next year, but I doubt we have to tag him. If you're going to do that, you might as well just extend him.
