Veach can’t risk tampering. If he’s got a plan in place and it involves Trent Williams, there’s only one thing he can probably bank on because he knows something from league circles:
San Fran ain’t gonna get Williams re-signed.
It makes little sense to cut Fisher with the plan of getting Williams if you’re just hoping Williams won’t re-sign. You have to have a legit shot at him to make it worth it.
I’m guessing if the niners get a deal done before free agency that Trent Williams wasn’t the actual target all along [Reply]

It’s either Williams or they’re trading for someone. No way they cut these guys and then just draft a guy at #31. [Reply]
I'd be pretty stoked if Williams signs here. Veach needs to do his due diligence and get a competent backup though. Williams will be 33 at the start of the season and Niang is unproven.
I don't think Roderick Johnson was too bad for Houston last year and would be up on the list for me. Remmers is not the answer, sorry folks. He's solid as a guard and passable as an in-game fix at RT but he's not the answer if relied upon for any length of time and certainly not at LT. [Reply]

They can draft a guy in the middle to late rounds like Ball or Forsythe to compete with Prince. [Reply]
