Media Center>Movies or TV Shows you've NEVER watched but everyone else has
scho63 02:37 PM 01-06-2023
A short time ago someone was asking about watching shows and when I told them, "no I've never watched that", they were apoplectic as if I had just killed their kid. It stunned them.

The movie was "It's a Wonderful Life." I have nothing against it and I watch plenty of black and white movies but I have never had a desire.

It made me think of others and what blockbusters people have assumed you watched. ( I can say 99% of the people who never saw the Godfather are women)

It's probably grown a lot since of all the streaming shows now for people who don't have certain subscriptions.

Some others that quickly come to mind:
1. Game of Thrones
2. The Walking Dead
3. All the Harry Potter franchise
4. Citizen Kane except small parts-didn't interest me
5. Gone with the Wind
6. Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul (However I plan to eventually binge both)
7. Vampire related movies after "The Lost Boys"
8. Schindler's List
9. Saving Private Ryan

Yeah, I went ahead and finally read the books so my daughter and I could talk about them.

I didn't hate them (the first 2 were pretty juvenile and man the last one was just BAD. Mediocre writing and just awful storytelling; really a poor effort by Rawling).

But while the books are plenty tolerable, those movies are BAD. Just the way they're shot is awful. They tray to create this sort of faux ominous feel through weird color palates and camera movements.

Those are one of the few movies I've ever hated not for WHAT they showed but HOW they showed it. Make those movies without trying to use shooting technique to cheat your way to some sort of foreboding quirkyness (which basically exists in the story anyway) and they might be pretty decent.

But those movies are baaaaaaaaaad.

Have you watched Hunger Games?

I've seen about 4 seconds of HP and will fully cosign your "they're shitty" position, but Hunger Games is super bad.

It was (though on a rewatch a few years ago, I found it quite a bit better), but S2 of the Leftovers is without a doubt one of the best seasons of television ever made.

Other than a few episodes of the Sopranos here or there, I've never made the time to watch any of these except The Wire.

You REALLY have to make it through the beginning half of S1 to get hooked with The Leftovers as it's such a different show and takes quite awhile to catch hold. But man....nothing else I've ever watched has fucked up my brain as much as that show did.
Agreed, it's easily one of my top shows of all time though I'm not actually sure I can or want to go back to the Leftovers any time soon either as it is so affecting. You have to be in a certain state of mind to be able to handle a lot of it.

The Wire is certainly up there for me as well. Been about a decade since I saw it so it might be time for a rewatch.

The lack of "I haven't seen Succession" in this thread is disturbing. Wife and I are doing a rewatch and it's cemented its status as my favorite show. One of those rare ones that is better on a 2nd rewatch because of the numerous details and incredible writing.

I've never watched Hunger Games, but at one point I stumbled across a movie where some guys who fake the Hangover cast stumble into a Hunger Games fake. It was one of those movies that was so bad that it was good. Various movie and TV franchises battled to the death. I was rooting strongly for the porn team to win, which isn't shown in the trailer because they were always topless.

Yeah, it takes the right state of mind for sure. Only show to ever make me that uncomfortable in my own head. It's gutwrenching and inspiring at the same time.

To your latter point, my wife thinks it's completely insane to rewatch a series and has never done so in her life. And I've heard the same from a handful of other people when talking about favorite TV shows. I guess I never realized that some might find it weird to watch a series again when you've already seen it, but I do it regularly with a handful of them.

I've probably watched the Wire 5 or 6 times. Sopranos at least 3. When GOT was on, I'd rewatch everything before each new season so I've seen a lot of that multiple times too. Someone posted below about a Succession rewatch and that sounds like something I'll knock out in the next month or so before the new season.

Yah. We're probably in the minority about HP movies, judging from how many people I know that just rave about them, but I just couldn't stand them.

Seinfeld.

I've obviously seen clips, and references in other stuff, but never a whole episode. Partly due to its prime being during a low tv time in my life (busy with college, getting a life, only owned a semi functional tv that I found on the railroad tracks,) but also it just didn't seem funny to me in ads or clips.
