There is no definitive “best” stat, but for me if you are talking about best “hitter”…Total Bases comes pretty close. It accounts for weighted damage done. The top 5 all time are Aaron, Musial, Pujols, Mays, and Bonds. All played at least 22 years. Cobb is sixth and played 24 years. [Reply]

I'm not including Bonds or Alex due to their use of steroids. Mays may have taken speed (greenies) like most ball players in the 50's-early 60's.But, he never admitted it like Yogi and Mantle. [Reply]

I get that he was average at best in Anaheim. But, doesn't baseball judge players on their overall stats? Not giving weight to these specific years over the other years? [Reply]

I think it depends on the person.
A lot of those top players mentioned were more consistent throughout their career. But it is up to each person judging.
When you look at Pujois' splits between St. Louis and Anaheim/California/Los Angeles Angels, it is like two different players. Especially in BA and OBP. [Reply]

Im not convinced unless the Cardinals can clinch the division early and run him out there every game for the last week and a half of the season. Even then, he may need some Cal Ripken ASG meatballs [Reply]

He's hit what 4 homers in the past 10 games? It's easily doable at this current pace [Reply]
