Sources: The #Seahawks and #Chiefs are deep in talks on a trade to send star Frank Clark to KC. The compensation would include a 1st rounder, a 2020 2nd rounder and a swap of mid-rounders. To complete it, the franchise tagged player and Chiefs must hammer out a deal.

They like the compensation but also acknowledge that Clark is a great player who likely won’t be replaced anytime soon. Bittersweet but optimistic, kind of like me [Reply]

It’s almost as if the Chiefs defense fucking sucked last year and they needed to upgrade quickly with immediate proven commodities. Quite the concept.
Did they overpay for Clark? Sure, they did. I don't think it was a dramatic overpay though.
The 29th is practically a 2nd rounder and a late 2nd in 2020 (lets be realistic, they are taking the lesser one and at least 1 of us of the 49ers are going to the playoffs....if not both teams and it would take a Pat injury for us to not make it). That's a future late 2nd, which carries the value of a late 3rd today.
Staying at 29 would have been the drizzling shits. They basically sent the value equivalent of a 2+late 3rd for a high end edge Defender. It was going to cost more to land one in the draft.
Saying this is the worst overspend is the stupidest fucking thing I've read yet today (Hamas). Must have been under a rock when they spent 33 + another 2 for tiny hands checkdown or the 35th pick for Afcasselstan. Ease up on the waterworks because uh, this isn't even close.
They just need a #1 corner and they'll have a very competent Defense. As for the cap. Do you guys still give a fuck about it? [Reply]

Maybe it WAS the right move. Maybe this guy can't draft for shit and getting proven product at any cost is the way to go!
I would have preferred to wait out the CB market a bit, see what happens post draft, and go to the draft with the idea of picking up a good DE in the first, a CB in the second, and a Center in the 3rd.
I would have preferred to get younger, CHEAPER talent so that we can pay the people we need to pay this year, and let our new coaching staff prove their worth.
This guy Clark might be the greatest FA we've ever picked up but I'm not going to start doing cartwheels every time Veach makes a move because until he can demonstrate that his ass cheeks can assume a position other than "wide the fuck open" and "open for business/no lube required", I don't trust him enough to throw a parade for every move he makes yet.
It's that simple.
You just have some hypothetical DE on the board at 29 that may not even be there, and is far, far from a sure thing.
You want another Speaks/Kpasso Situation while we play out Mahomes' final contract years?
Yeah, no fucking thanks. You can keep that shit.
Wait till after the draft to find a CB? WTF kind of talent do you think you're going to find after the draft in FA? You think Peterson is all of a sudden gonna get cut post-draft or some shit. News flash dude, you don't get MORE talented players the longer you wait.
And who said Jones/Hill won't get paid?
Jones will likely still get paid this year. And Sorry Tyreek, but you fucked up dude. Now he has to wait for his off-field drama to clear up before the Chiefs guarantee you shit.
This isn't about objectivity. Objectivity would be realizing that forcing a pick for DE if an elite DE isn't there is bum-fuck retarded, and that we just added one of the better DE's in the game right now.
Your plan sucks, plain and simple. Your plan isn't a plan.
Your "plan" is basically to buy cheap, Chineese counter-fit parts (because hey, you saved money!) and hoping your car doesn't break down half way through your road trip.
Fuck that, SDH. Buy OE and drive confident! Even if it costs you more money. [Reply]

Nobody is saying that's even close to a replacement for Frank Clark. People think this is a straight up trade top using a top 20 pick (assume 2nd rounder used for a trade-up) for Frank Clark. It isn't. It's a top 20 pick + $20M that could have been spent elsewhere (either on 1 player or multiple).
As an example, imagine if we went after Landon Collins instead without picks. Clark is a better player but would you trade Collins + a first rounder to get Frank Clark? I'm happy we made an aggressive move. But it feels like a panic because we couldn't get other deals done. We can feel good about the trade while still feeling like we reached big time. [Reply]
I think Clark is a damn good player. I just don't agree with everyone's dismissal of the 29th overall pick. You do realize Clark was drafted in the 2nd round, right? There is still value at 29th let's not go overboard. [Reply]
