I've seen "garbage time" mentioned a couple of times. That's absolutely false. Nix led a drive to bring the score to 20-26 and they gave the ball back with more than two minutes left. If the defense got a stop, they would have had the ball with time to win the game. [Reply]

Garbage time is any time the defense changes and allows the offense to move the ball with the hope that all that time spent on taking the underneath stuff burns clock. And ideally, they keep that team out of the end zone.

It was absolutely true, up two scores five minutes to go. Garbage time. Seattle played like it too on defense that last Denver drive. Kept everything in front of them, forced Denver to use the clock. Denver ended ip scoring. Seattle got the ball back and ran the clock out. Game over. [Reply]
