Nzoner's Game Room>Call Your Shot: Who will be the Chiefs first pick in the 2025 NFL draft?
staylor26 02:31 PM 04-17-2025
I'm going with Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio St.

I think the Chiefs would prefer a guy like Walter Nolen or Derrick Harmon falls into their lap, but I don't think that happens next Thursday night, or at least I'm not going to get me hopes up.

A lot of people will not like this pick, due to the injury risk, but the Chiefs take a swing at a T that otherwise would never be in that late 1st round range.

Side note: I could also see Josh Conerly being the pick and could've just as easily chose him. Upside isn't as high, but he's probably safer given his health.

Simon says Luther Burden III. Brett will get a quality LT in round 2.

Tyleik Williams is a monster and very underrated. I'd love this pick as the kid reminds me of Warren Sapp.

Chiefs first pick = DE JT Tuimoloau.

Harmon and Nolen are gone; Patriots want Egbuka; Chiefs trade back (to #38) and collect an extra pick (#77).

pick# 63 becomes WR Jalen Royals
pick# 66 becomes DT TJ Sanders
pick# 77 becomes S Kevin Winston
pick# 95 becomes OT Charles Grant

Unless a Nolen or Harmon drop, this appears to be a great year to move back. If, for example, we could get another team's second-round pick for next season and a later-round pick this season I'd happily trade down a dozen spots.

There will likely still be very good picks available: Henderson, Conerly, Burden, Tuimoloau, Ersey. A starter can still be had. And we all know how valuable the Sneed pick is this year (66) -- it sure would be great to have an even more valuable pick next year.

If an unexpected player drops to the team at 31 by all means make the selection. But it seems this year there is a larger than normal group of good picks beginning in the second round. The team would have to give up the fifth year option -- which is valuable. But I don't know if that value is high enough to overcome the need for future premium picks to stock the cupboard.

I don’t really like the first round wrs this year. The defensive tackles are probably the most with a first round grade. Lots of running backs all over. Take your pick. All types.

A pre injury Simmons might be the only o lineman with a first round grade other than Campbell

So you trade down to waste a 5th year option for a late round pick? Not very bright

You missed the team obtaining a second-rounder next season. It's an important part of the story. That's what is meant by a "premium" draft pick. I'd trade down from 31 to 50 to get it. The depth in the draft this year makes it a good opportunity. But what do I know? I'm not very bright.

The biggest needs on this team are Tackle, DL and offensive playmakers. RB is incredibly stacked this year as well as DE. There are so many good RB options, and I have never seen so many Spagsy DE’s in a draft before. DT is really strong in the first 2 rds and there’s not a huge disparity between guys like Derrick Harmon and TJ Sanders/Shemar Stewart or Josh Farmer.

This is a good year to take a shot on a Tackle if they really feel one is worth it. Josh Simmons is probably that guy, and he’s a significantly better prospect than the guys we’ve drafted or have been available to us in the Mahomes era.

Gonna go with Josh Simmons

JT is my favorite if we don't go Conerly and secure LT, by far. I'd be excited about that pick Hell, if you're draft here hit it'd be pretty stellar though your last 3 picks probably all go higher than that.

I have to cover two scenarios:

If they trade up: Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon.
All the talk after the trade is about Josh Simmons, just like all the talk after the trade to 10 was about DeShaun Watson. And then the Chiefs take a future Hall of Fame player instead.

If they stay put: I'll go with Josh Conerly, OT, Oregon.

I have absolutely 0.0 percent desire to see them waste the pick on Josh Simmons. Every data point we have - like legitimately, every single godsdamned one of them - tells us that guy is NEVER going to be the same player again. Literally no one has had the patellar injury and returned to be as good physically as they were before. NFL, NBA, it doesn't matter. The knee is never the same again.

Let a loser franchise throw their pick away. Certainly don't trade up for the right to throw away yours on this guy.

This is just not true, there are examples like Jimmy Graham of guy's coming back from this injury and looking like themselves. I believe Mo Claiborne is another.

If what you're saying is true, he wouldn't get drafted in the 1st round period. End of story. If the injury were as bad as you are making it out to be, he wouldn't be a 1st round pick, and all these plugged in guys wouldn't be talking like he is one.

Trey Smith fell to fucking day 3 for something that hasn't ever even been an issue. They are very cautious with this kind of shit. All teams are.

If the Chiefs takes Simmons, they are not throwing their pick away. That is ridiculous hyperbole. If they take him, it's because their medical staff feels great about it.
