In TN, that was fine because Tannehill sucks.

In Baltimore, it kind of works because Lamar is kind of like playing 12 on 11 (albeit with a less true QB-he's still a pain in the ass because of his legs). I still think ultimately, it will be their cryptonite. Stop Henry and force Lamar to beat you as a QB and he can't.

Henry doesn't catch. He doesn't block. He takes the ball from the I and beats you into submission. Unless it doesn't work. And then you're screwed.

I don't think you can say that's who Vrabel is definitively. Yet.
Very true.

It comes down to who he hires at OC. That's going to say a lot about how much Vrabel learned in Nashville.

Like you said, we will see. But so far we've seen nothing from Harbaugh that suggests he's evolving with the modern game.
I'm just going to point this out because I don't think you peruse the draft forum much (you should, it's decent football talk) but many CP'ers want to give up multiple firsts to go up and get a LT. Every year, this is the majority opinion.

And we're paying Jawaan Taylor a ton of money.

And we're the current dynasty in the NFL.

So, I'm just saying-you may disagree that locking in bookend OT's to protect your franchise QB is a wise allocation of resources, but that's not necessarily a consensus opinion.

The Titans did throw the ball to AJ Brown. A lot.

Just want to say, I really appreciate the non-hyperbolic, respectful football talk on this thread. :-)

I think our recent success makes people underrate guys who arent legendary all time greats. i mean, we’re comparing Vrabel to Marty like it’s a bad thing? Marty, for all his flaws, is a HOF level coach. For many organizations, having consistently great regular season teams like he did would be a miracle. For us, its not enough cuz we’re in the middle of a dynasty. Only one team and coach can win every year. Vrabel has won multiple playoff games which is more than most coaches can say. The Pats arent gonna be the Chiefs. If Vrabel can win ONE SB and a couple playoff games it’ll be a massive success. Even if he doesnt win the SB, turning this current Pats team into a good playoff team would be a success.

Agreed.

And while we HOPE we're in the middle of a dynasty (and not the end), it appears we might lose Spags this off-season, which might be the first domino. Now, I think as long as we have Veach, Reid, and Mahomes we're in good shape, but without Spags...we might get back to losing AFCCG's 40-38. And while those games are undoubtedly fun to watch, I prefer the results we've gotten since then.

Oh I read the Draft forum. And I think a lot of Chiefs fans over-estimate the importance of offensive lineman. Somehow Martyball is lightly etched in their DNA. I'm the other extreme - my body rejected Martyball and being exposed to it makes me ill. :-)

I don't want to see the greatest QB to ever play end up like Montana.

If that means too many eggs in the OL basket I'm ok with it. I'd prefer to err on that side.

I don't have a problem with that.

The thing with elite QB's, as I see it is...you just don't know. You draft them high (and they almost always go high) and one guy is IT, and one guy isn't. For every Peyton Manning, there's a Ryan Leaf. For every Mahomes, a Trubisky. More than one to one; more like 5 or 6 or ten to one.

And you're likely not winning multiple Super Bowls without one. Not in THIS NFL. You need a top 5 guy.

Some guys play at that level for a season and drop off. Some guys age out. But at any point, there are 5 guys that can legit play that position at an elite level.

Just how I see it.

If you don't have one of those guys, you have to do the best you can. You build a defense, you run the ball, you try to build an offensive scheme that can score enough points to win games.

If you MAY have one of those guys but you're not sure yet, you still do the same. You build the line to protect your guy, you play defense, you run the ball, and you try to put him in the position to BE that guy. (Looking at Herbert. And Goff. And Lamar. This year's version of Sam Darnold. Purdy. etc.)

They'll either rise or they won't. And you don't know until it happens...or doesn't.

It's still football.

Martyball is a totally different thing. Run, run, pass, punt isn't in Andy Reid's DNA.

Keeping Mahomes upright is never going to be a bad priority.

Man, we almost did.

Think how different all of these conversations would be if we had. Not even close games...

I think it's more PTSD from the TB Super Bowl. If you'd have told me I'd be absolutely miserable watching the Chiefs play a Super Bowl prior to 2018 I'd have said you were crazy, but in 2021, it happened.

Bitch Trumitsky isn't the best comparison. He was always going to be an Alex Smith type dude. Take Trey Lance, Shanarat Jr thought his dumbass was getting Mahomes. It wasn't that.
