Even your hand-picked article acknowledges that Veach was "smitten." So why do you find it unlikely that Veach was the one pounding the table initially? Both can be true. Dorsey may have been extremely interested in Mahomes come draft day, and Veach may be the biggest reason he was so interested.

No, there were definitely other options.
And even if a lot of GMs would have traded for Wilson in that situation (very debatable, as a lot of people had acknowledged that he was in decline and losing athleticism), they wouldn't have given up four 1st/2nd rounders and three talented players to get him. And then turned around and given him a ludicrous contract with a $50 mil signing bonus before he stepped foot on the field. :-) [Reply]

Yeah, the drafting him in the 1st does seem like a stretch regardless. I would think they'd have other needs that could've been addressed with that pick, besides taking a QB that wouldn't see the field for 1-2+ seasons. [Reply]
