For all things Royals in 2022. #3 minor league system according to Baseball America. The Bobby Witt era should begin this year. Will Salvy still be the homerun king? How does the glut of infield players work out? Will the young pitchers take the next step?

Mets spending alot of money to finish 3rd in the division.

It is discouraging when you see the contracts coming out. Add to that, the Royals are probably going to have to over pay to get a good player to come to a 65-win team.

Justin Verlander 2 years $86,666,666
Aaron Judge 9 years $360,000,000
Jacob deGrom 5 years $185,000,000
Trea Turner 11 years $300,000,000
Xander Bogaerts 11 years $280,000,000
Edwin Diaz 5 years $102,000,000
Anthony Rizzo 2 years $40,000,000
Clayton Kershaw 1 year $20,000,000
Joc Pederson 1 year $19,650,000
Martin Perez 1 year $19,650,000
Jose Abreu 3 years $58,500,000
Taijuan Walker 4 years $72,000,000
Wilson Contreras 5 years $87,500,000
Cody Bellinger 1 year $17,500,000
Jameson Taillon 4 years $68,000,000
Zach Eflin 3 years $40,000,000
Jose Quintana 2 years $26,000,000
Mike Clevinger 1 year $12,000,000

It will be interesting to see what Kansas City does.

Forbes:
Revenue SD 282 (60m tv) KC 263 (50m tv)
Price paid SD 600M. KC 1,000M

SD has 100M committed to just 3 players for the rest of the decade. We have none obv and likely won’t. I posted the “price paid” because that’s what’s driving this, people were so excited to get a new owner but I said at the time new owners will have to commit to debt payments instead of players

release Dozier, sign Brandon Drury

2022 Regular Season
518 87runs 28hr 87rbi .263 .320 .812

Brandon Drury enjoyed a career year in 2022, amassing 2.6 WAR with Cincinnati and San Diego. Drury has always been an average ball player, but he turned a corner over the past few years by dedicating his approach to hitting the ball with authority.

Some old friends alert in the Sean Murphy trade

Estuery Ruiz is going from the Brewers to the A's. Joel Payamps, Justin Yeager and William Contreras are going to the Brewers in 3-team deal.

The Royals are literally sitting there with their thumbs in their asses doing nothing at all...other than apparently leaking stuff that isn't great..

Like saying they want to sign a veteran catcher because they don't like MJ Melendez as a catcher which then fuels speculation he's going to be traded...

Man that'd be awesome if they don't want him to catch you know what this team needs? More 1B/OF guys, yea that's the ticket.

Royals have $33m committed for 2023 and $29m for 2024. Salvy alone is $20m of it both years. IOW: Sherman has essentially no committed payroll coming up. Yet they spent zero this winter and there’s no word on any deals for our existing roster

And if anyone thinks they are gonna go spend 80 million dollars in 1 offseason to go back to a normal payroll....they aren't.

Someone needs to explain to me how San Diego, the 27th market, can afford to sign players while other teams cry poor and do nothing...

Sounds like bullshit to me.

That’s what I asked a few posts ago. They have 282m revenue and we have 262m. Yet they’ve got 172m and 143m committed next two years.

The answer: Sherman doesn’t want to spend.

Apparently San Diego is interested in trying to win something while we are not...

I mean shit if Sherman can get the stadium built downtown he could probably turn whatever seasonal profits and then sell the team for twice what he paid overall giving his personal wealth a nice gain.
