I'd still vote Ohtani, but Salvy's having his career year in a HOF career. Can't say that about Semien, who seems to be behind Vlad Jr for runner-up in discussions.
plus salvy was CATCHING for 120 games...talk about a mvp [Reply]

Why? The NL only had 2 other good teams. There were a ton of easy wins in that league. [Reply]
Nah you can't dump someone while the price is low. There is no way the Yankees are going to trade Gleyber Torres for Mondesi. You're just going to get a middling prospect for a guy who has a talent to be a superstar. Mondesi might never get there but you can't let him go be a superstar somewhere else while you're trying to develop an Olivares or Gutierrez type prospect. That's just brutal for a small market team.
We basically just did that with Soler and it looks terrible. Traded a 40 HR, 800 OPS guy at his lowest value for a middle of the road relief prospect. You can do that and it'll make the fans happy in the short term, but it looks terrible in hindsight. [Reply]

We basically just did that with Soler and it's infuriating. Traded a 40 HR, 800 OPS guy at his lowest value for a middle of the road relief prospect. You can do that and it'll make the fans happy in the short term, but it looks terrible in hindsight.
There comes a time you have to cut bait to bring the kids up into the bigs! Your analogy is we should keep Dozier because he has 30 HR potential and no real place to play him with the kids coming up! [Reply]

Uh,,,,,no. Soler was certainly not a 40HR 800ops guy. And besides, he’s a FA after the year anyway and he wasn’t coming back. We wouldn’t have won anything with him and we got Atlanta to assume the $3M left on his deal. That trade meant nothing to our future [Reply]

Yeah but Mondesi actually performs when he actually plays. His only problem is staying healthy. You put him in Yankee Stadium and he's going to be a 30/50 player. It's going to look stupid if you trade that for a couple middling prospects.
It sucks but that's what it is. Big market teams don't trade prospects anymore unless you get someone like Mookie Betts, and Mondesi isn't Mookie Betts. You just have to ride it out and hope the guys develop, or trade them for pennies on the dollar and watch Jorge Soler hit leadoff and smash bombs to get the Braves into the playoffs. [Reply]
We all know how this will play out with Mondesi - keep him and he becomes a middling contributor that flashes from time to time between stints on the DL and has us all wondering "what if" when his career is done, or trade him and watch him become a future hall of famer with his new team and be pissed we didn't get enough for him. Those are likely the options, unfortunately. [Reply]
