I can’t remember what podcast it was but there were some really interesting statistics about Smarts usage at the end of halves or shot clocks or something. Ultimately the conclusion was is Smart thinks he’s the fucking dude. He’s not. The metrics bear that out. He’s a good player that has a lot of value but he’s not THE dude on a team with Tatum and Brown. They need a player that will make opportunities for Tatum and Brown instead of putting on the cape.

That's one way of looking at it, but the fact that Smart often took those shots/more shots than he should (and he did take a lot of stupid shots) also may reflect the inherent lack of leadership of Tatum/Brown.
I also think it could be argued Smart's intangibles mattered far more to that team than anything he was actually doing on the court. I'd be worried about where that is going to come from now on a team that already was struggling in that regard. That team was soft as hell as it was. [Reply]
