For all things Royals in 2022. #3 minor league system according to Baseball America. The Bobby Witt era should begin this year. Will Salvy still be the homerun king? How does the glut of infield players work out? Will the young pitchers take the next step?

Keep in mind they’re doing all this without Grayson Rodriguez, the top pitching prospect headed into 2022, who was expected to be up in May or June.
In the Adley-Witt draft, the O's followed it up by taking Gunnar Henderson at 42. That's a looking like a slam dunk pick as of now, and it's not out of the question that Henderson turns out to be a better player than Witt.

Gavin Cross has a .984 ops and 18-year old Carter Jensen has one of the highest BB rates in milb history for his age.

Carter Jensen has a ridiculous 16.7% BB% in Low-A as an 18-year old. That is by far the highest BB% I can find from an 18-year old in full-season ball. I can’t even find another example of an (qualified) 18-year old having a BB% of at least 15% in full-season ball. Absurd.

It's not just the primary, it's the ONLY thing. Their offenses are basically the exact same. The O's have an OPS of .06 better than the royals, and both are bottom half offenses. But the difference is our pitching is amazingly bad at walks. That's the main difference. We have almost the exact same amount of HRs given up, strikeouts they are 24th and we are 26th, OBA they are 25 we are 29. For as shaky as our starters have been we actually have more quality starts than they do. But walks? We have over 150 more than the Orioles. They are fourth best and we are the worst by a fair amount. This allows the otherwise not great Orioles staff to sit at 17 in whip while we sit in dead last. If the royals could take any sort of jump in that category we would improve dramatically.

Which speaks to problems with pitching development up and down the system and also to a problem with the major league coaching staff.

And, hey, while we're at it, a problem with the big league catchers. Perez especially is notoriously bad at framing and earning his pitchers strikes.

RHP Daniel Mengden and OF Nate Eaton will be the #Royals September callups. Each team gets two extra players, one pitcher and one position player.
