Every news organization in the city was there live covering the event. They had reporters, cameras, microphones, and equipment all over the area. They have more recorded information available than what the police have access to at this point.
So rather than asking the police how many shots were fired, perhaps the media could watch their own footage, listen, count the gunshots themselves and report on that.
