That was my first thought as well. At least it is a minor league contract so perhaps it is just to add a little depth and kick the tires in spring training to see what he has. The past regime would definitely have him on the ML roster and playing 150 games while contributing a negative WAR.

Of course Scherzer is going to be the one to figure out how to use the clock to his advantage. Hitter only gets one timeout now so he forces him to use it, then waits on him to step back in so he can attack.

Baseball was played at this speed in the 70's and 80's and there was nothing wrong with it. Not sure when anyone who has watched baseball or cares about the past has any complaints about the pitch clock. It's getting the speed of play back onto what used to happen. The game evolved to be slower and it isn't needed. [Reply]
