Safe is safe.
Wilson has averaged 29 passing TDs per season for his career. The Broncos have never had 29 passing TDs in a season without Elway or Manning.

Wilson has averaged 33 passing TDs per season over the last 5 years. The Broncos have never had 33 passing TDs in a season without Manning.

BTW, in the corresponding 4 game stretch by Mahomes, he had 2 fumbles, so just one fewer than Wilson.
Sweet, now do the record of their teams during those games!

Enjoy your Alex Smith.

Nevermind that it was an unprecedented period of crappy luck and most of those throws were actually on the money. Call it an excuse, yada yada....bottom line is that Mahomes has proven himself before and after. It's not likely to happen again.

What you're failing to see is that this was the period during which Russ got what he wanted. They finally "let Russ cook!" And that's what happened. If KC had unleashed Mahomes and that was the result, maybe your comparison would make a little sense.
Of course I cherrypicked a stretch of Mahomes' games to compare to the cherrypicked stretch of Wilson's games. Why wouldn't I?

Interesting that those 4 games are the ones where Russ got what he wanted, not the 5 games before where he went 5-0 with 19 TDs and 3 INTs.

Wilson went 1-3 in those games in the middle of a 12-4 season.

Mahomes went 2-2 in those games (3-4 if we extend it over his 7 game turnover stretch) in the middle of a 12-5 season.

What's your point?

Wilson answered by holding out his hands, palms toward the ground, gazing at his own knuckles.

“Filling up my fingers,” Wilson said. He was admiring the Super Bowl rings that only he could see.
I asked him which hand the rings would go on.

“Hopefully both,” Wilson said with a smirk.

Context of course always matters. So lets add some context since you think these things are comparable.

Wilson has been more or less a game manager most of his career. Hence his issues with Seattle. He wanted to throw more. When they finally allowed him to open up the passing attack, he became a turnover machine and Carrol subsequently throttled him down.

In Russ's limited time "airing it out", he was shut down because he couldn't stop turning the ball over. Thus, there's nothing to suggest he can lead a dominant aerial attack w/o a play action/run game. When he tried, he failed.

Mahomes OTOH has always aired it out. No run game. No play action. He IS the focal point of the offense. When he had a stretch of turnovers, we can definatively say it was just that....a stretch. Which is not the case for Wilson.

The context here is entirely different.

I love car analogies.

Mahomes is a Ferarri that regularly goes past 150MPH. In the event that our Ferrari didn't hit 150, we knew it was something that needed fixed, not a limitation on the car.

Wilson, for all we know, is a Nissan Sentra. For the most part, it can't do 150. It never has before. When we asked it to, it shook, rattled and fell apart. There's no prior history of your Sentra doing 150 where we can say, "oh it just needs fixed". It's more a matter of the car simply not being built to handle that kind of performance.

The end result. Playoff wins that season.

So he chose not to manifest more than a single playoff win (vs Josh McCown) in 5 years? :-)

29 would have been top 10 the last 2 seasons and top 5 in 2019.
