For all things Royals in 2022. #3 minor league system according to Baseball America. The Bobby Witt era should begin this year. Will Salvy still be the homerun king? How does the glut of infield players work out? Will the young pitchers take the next step?

3B might be his best position.

Shit, even tacking those guys on to the trades with the Yankees and Blue Jays would have worked.

But they’re probably convinced they’re close to winning next year.
I mean, this is going to be a hot take, but they aren't wrong. Or more accurately, it's what has to happen and if it doesn't then whoever we get for Barlow isn't moving the needle either. People seem to be thinking our window to make the playoffs is years out, but the fact of the matter is it can't be.

On the hitting side, we aren't going to be nearly as green as people imply. By playing all the kids this year, we are going to get a very realistic view of how these guys will hold up in the majors. Witt JR and Melendez will have 800 PAs by next year's all star break. Vinny P will be in the 500-600 range, same with Pratto. While you can't define a career in those ranges, if these guys all come through to some extent then this will be an above average offense next year. No, not the 27 Yankees and maybe not their absolute peak of what is possible, but it won't be far off. At some point potential has to turn into results and if it's not in the 600+ ab range, then when is it?
Then you look at the pitching, and it's the same sort of story. Either Singer has turned the corner or he hasn't. Either lynch, bubic, and whoever else you want to throw in there become decent guys or they don't. You are going to be looking at a bunch of guys who, if they don't come through next year, you have to just start accepting that's who they are(pitching coach change possibly excluded).
Then you look at the prospects we have and it's pretty barren now that everyone is up playing. There is no help on the way except for this year's draft class who hasn't played yet and Waters. That's about it. Loftin and some of the guys we got at the deadline might be decent contributors at some point, but there is no star power, no Witt JR we can dream about saving our franchise. If the pitching and the hitting don't work out next year then there isn't any reason to think the following year is going to be any better, and I think that's what the front office is thinking: hope that there are positive signs on both sides of the ball and we hang around the wild card chase. After all, you only have to be 500 to be realistically in it.

3 wild card spots and a traditionally weak division. Royals have the young talent to make a push next season if we had a new manager.

Will the Royals have some money to work with in free agency next year? And if so, where would be the best place to focus an investment? Does a SP and OF make sense? Or are we just rolling with what we got?

No room for optimism around these parts.

As for Whit Merrifield, John Schneider says, “nothing new,” re vax status. “Obviously we know he wasn't there in Toronto, but totally up to him. And I'm sure that he's had conversations with his family and other people. So, you know, we're leaving that decision up to him.”

Like, 99% that's just Schneider following proper protocol and not disclosing Whits medical info publicly one way or the other, but that 1% chance they really made the trade without assurances is fucking hilarious.

Be interesting to see if they're making the switch to 3B now, or if this is just part of a merry go round to see what fits best.
