5. Harrison Butker
They all take hometown discounts to keep winning Super Bowls and we good? We draft/ find cost effective league vets to replace them and keep winning Super Bowls? They all leave and we're doomed? Somewhere in the middle of all of that?
Those are definitely five guys that will be disappointing to see go if the business side of things dictates as much. [Reply]

We can restructure. Mahomes Kelce Jone. and Taylor
Danna and Tranquil both signed 3-year deals this offseason, so they could also be candidates for re-structure. It just won't make as big of a dent as the others might. [Reply]

Players in the twilight of their careers can and do accept smaller contracts to keep from moving families or having to upend their lives for one or two last years.
Reid falls into that category.....a guy like Bolton might take a little less (not a large amount) because of his connection to Mizzou and KC being the team who believed in him when others didn't.
But yes the rest of them...you are right there will be no discount. [Reply]
This is incorrect. Toney's entire contract was just under $14 million over four years. The fifth year option, which the Chiefs declined, would have been over $14.4 million. His cap hit for 2024 is $2.5 million, which is fully guaranteed. So cutting him saves nothing. [Reply]

There is such a thing as guys who are desperate for a ring, but we haven't had very much of them, probably because by the time those players get desperate they're not very good anymore, and we don't have any use for them on our roster. Dunlap and Tranquil (even though Tranquil is still pretty young) are the most recent examples I can think of.
In terms of dudes we've re-signed or extended, there haven't been that many to give us actual hometown discounts. Really, Kelce and Mahomes are the only ones I can think of. [Reply]

Creed - resign
Bolton - resign
Reid - wait and see. The safety market was pretty soft this year with good players out there.
Smith - replacement already on the squad in Hunter Nourzad. He will probably get a big bag somewhere else.
Butker - resign as long as his demands are not ridiculous. The change in kickoffs might lower his positional salary. [Reply]
Creed: Probably will be resigned. The center market isn’t as inflated as other positions on the line. It’s an important position that I think Veach will prioritize.
Bolton: would love to see him resign and think he will as long as he’s not asking for the moon.
Trey: Gone unless he agrees to less money, but a longer contract.
Reid: With him doing kickoffs now he will have a greater level of utility that could make him more valuable than he would be as just a safety.
Butker: He’s one of the best K’s in the league and is nails in every high pressure situation he is put in during the playoffs. He will get resigned. [Reply]
With new cap we should have $30M-$40M less the draft class. And there is plenty of $$ in Mahomes and Jones deals if we restructure one or both of them. Thuney will also likely get replace by a more affordable veteran so that’s $16M more as well. We should have no problem keeping Bolton, Creed, and Butker and replacing Thuney and Smith with lower priced vets and draft picks. Reid is replaced by who we already have. [Reply]

People will hate this, but it’s absolutely the right move. The guy will likely get close to $20 million a year with the way things are going, and a championship team just doesn’t pay a center that kind of money. They’ve kept that position dirt cheap this entire run and I don’t expect that to change. [Reply]

Bolton is number two. He is solid but he better not be asking for top dollar. He is really good but he isn’t the best on the market.
Butker is third. Great kicker. However….What is he going to ask? Are we paying 8+ million for a kicker? I guess this goes for all of them. Creed and butker are the only two that I would make the highest paid but they better not be going too high.
