North Carolina had like 150 people test positive in the first week as well and then they cancelled in-person classes. Now they have like 400 people in quarantine.

Just one the many things people fail to consider when they developed what I call Covid-Vision.

That age group is already more anxious and depressed than anything really ever seen (thanks social media). So this number isn’t all that surprising.

Just go ahead and cancel schools and go back to virtual. If we're gonna shut down when there's a case, it's not gonna happen anyway.

I don't see that at all. People handle stress in different ways. There's a pandemic going on. It's a real shame that some people are contemplating suicide during the pandemic and the stress that it has caused, but what's the alternative? Ignoring the pandemic?

What percentage of that age group were seriously contemplating suicide in June of 2019? I am sure the number has increased a great amount but I am curious to see the actual impact of COVID-19 on this.

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/...cid=mm6932a1_w

Elevated levels of adverse mental health conditions, substance use, and suicidal ideation were reported by adults in the United States in June 2020. The prevalence of symptoms of anxiety disorder was approximately three times those reported in the second quarter of 2019 (25.5% versus 8.1%), and prevalence of depressive disorder was approximately four times that reported in the second quarter of 2019 (24.3% versus 6.5%) (2). However, given the methodological differences and potential unknown biases in survey designs, this analysis might not be directly comparable with data reported on anxiety and depression disorders in 2019 (2). Approximately one quarter of respondents reported symptoms of a TSRD related to the pandemic, and approximately one in 10 reported that they started or increased substance use because of COVID-19. Suicidal ideation was also elevated; approximately twice as many respondents reported serious consideration of suicide in the previous 30 days than did adults in the United States in 2018, referring to the previous 12 months (10.7% versus 4.3%) (6).

Do you think the stress comes more from the pandemic itself or the reporting being done on the pandemic?

From another article

The toll was particularly striking among adults ages 18 to 24. In this group, about 63% reported symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder, 25% reported starting or increasing use of substances, and 25% reported seriously considering suicide in the past 30 days. For comparison, in a national survey conducted in 2018, about 14% of young adults reported an episode of major depression and 11% reported serious thoughts of suicide in the past year.

I'll speak a little from experience. I've shared that I struggle with both depression/anxiety and have for as long as I can remember.

By June I had accepted the fact that this was something we weren't getting rid of and that we were going to have to live with it. I also understood how to protect myself to the best of my ability, and how to keep my clients as safe as possible. I still worry about covid every day, but I use my worry to be responsible.

But back in March/April/May? There were definitely times I considered harming myself. It felt like the world was coming to an end. The deadly plague was coming. All hospitals were going to be filled to capacity with everyone on ventilators. If you were one of the lucky ones, you might get a ventilator. If not - sorry about your luck.
