It would be different if they got fucked by the refs but KC lost 13 points directly from bad calls. 4 from the phantom hold on the Rice TD. Blatant holding missed on a 4th down play on Baltimore only TD drive. 2 on tge missed safety. Ravens lost 0 points from poor calls.

It wasn't even a bad call. The Bengals lost that game because they didn't do a good enough job in building an offensive line, starters and backups. You can't bring trash off the bench because your starter goes down and hope to win anything because it's the NFL and guys get hurt all the time. The second thing they did wrong in that game was to not allow the other team's best player(s) beat you. They allowed Cooper Kupp to go off on the last drive and they allowed Aaron Donald to jump on the QB in about 2 seconds on their final offensive drive. They even lost the AFCCG last year for the same reasons; trash oline guy and not recoginizing an All Pro is lined up one on one against him on the most crucial down in the most crucial time of the game.

Refs are bad. Across the board. They miss calls and make bad calls every game. There's no correcting that until they make them full-time, to where they can be in class and on the field studying year round. Even then, games are not going to be called 100% right most times.

The Chiefs have overcome all that because they have a front office that can draft and identify players that can patch better than others and they have a coach who can identify and plan accordingly, game to game. They scheme and execute, with good players better than everyone else. The Bengals have a core of starters to get there and lead, but they've failed in the other areas that are just as important.
Great points. Cincinnati has arguably the best QB in their history and are treating him like he was Andrew Luck. Jamar Chase is a great receiver, but he was the wrong pick long term. I get his short term value, but your QB is getting killed out there because another WR was more important than keeping your most important player upright and healthy.

A good GM like Veach watched what happened to Mahomes due to poor line play (all backups mind you) in SB 55. He spent the offseason focusing 100% on addressing that issue and has crushed it. He’s still doing what he has to in order to protect Mahomes. One team has elite WRs and is watching the SB from the house because their QB is injured again due to a weak offensive line. The other has lesser WRs yet is in their 4th SB in 5 years because their QB is healthy because he took very few hits.

Some interesting reading from Lamar land. Ravens Wire, USA Today

Are we ready to be honest about Lamar Jackson?

Larry Brown Jr.

After Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson lost again in the playoffs, it’s time to be honest about his shortcomings.

While offensive coordinator Todd Monken does deserve some blame for abandoning the running game, is Monken wrong for expecting his “MVP” to complete passes with accuracy and timing on three-step drops? Furthermore, Monken’s quick passing attack was the correct counter to the blitz scheme of Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

Jackson’s play was pedestrian at best, holding the ball too long in the pocket, dropping back 15-plus yards aimlessly on the first play, and throwing into triple coverage at a crucial point of the game. The Ravens were 3 of 11 on third down. Jackson went 20 for 37 through the air and was sacked four times, losing a fumble on one of them.

As a result of Jackson’s inability to lead the offense, the Ravens defense had to be on the field for 73 snaps. After shutting the Chiefs down entirely in the second half, the Ravens still had to wake up to the false narrative that Patrick Mahomes carved them up. Defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald didn’t even speak to the media before he decided to skip town.

Instead of presuming the Ravens will be back next season, Jackson needs to process the loss and know that the AFC North will be a much more challenging road in 2024. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will return from injury, and the Cleveland Browns will have running back Nick Chubb back from injury.

The Ravens didn’t sign Jackson to a five-year, $260 million contract last offseason for empty promises at the podium, locker room dance moves or his ability to win the MVP award. Jackson must improve his game as a pocket passer. It’s time to hold him accountable.

Yep. He killed it with the Humphrey and Smith picks in '21. The Bengals have been beyond bad in evaluating offensive linemen for a long long time. I wanted Humphrey and there were more than a few on the Bengals MB who were calling for taking a shot on Trey Smith. The Bengals were interested in Thuney but they historically just won't pay guards, so they probably low-balled him with an offer.

I'm not upset with the Chase pick because, as good as he is, Sewell is only 1 guy out of 5 and they'd still have 4 spots they'd need to hit on, so at least they got an elite talent for the QB. Plus they would have probably put him at LT due to his draft position and they weren't ready to move Williams at that point, which is a problem of it's own. They're just really bad at FA/draft/positioning offensive linemen.

What does this even mean?

You have to play like a $260 million QB or else?

Maybe the Ravens should hold themselves accountable for signing a bad contract.
