Anyone know much about the talent level at the ACL rookie league? It’s still incredibly early but Erick Pena is off to a pretty slow start, would nice to see one of our highly regarded prospects hit the ground running for a change. It’s been too long since KC has gotten anyone worth mentioning out of Latin America. [Reply]

If the Royals evaluated Rocker as a 4 or 5 then he'll be an ace, they aren't good with pitchers. [Reply]
What's the success rate for drafting a HS pitcher versus college (not just the Royals)? Even if 'success' is just playing in the big leagues?
I read one outdated article that mentioned back in the day, you had a pretty decent idea of who would make it, but now it's a crazy crapshoot and basically a terrible idea, but didn't compare it to drafting college pitchers. Saw another article that had the top 50 HS players ever drafted and I saw two pitchers that I noticed... Kershaw and Kerry Wood. [Reply]

Erick Peña went 3-3 with his first professional HR tonight. He also doubled and walked twice. That’s fun.
There's an interesting pick. Took a guy who was considered by some to be a top 100 player in the 17th round. He was ranked #101 on the official MLB.com rankings and seems like many people thought he could sneak into being a 1st or 2nd round pick. We'll see if they can actually sign him.
A really interesting note: The Royals selected NC State C Luca Tresh in the 17th round. (He was the No. 67 overall player on @keithlaw's board.)

BW Jr went 3-5 with a HR last night. It looks like he'll be one of the few prospects with so much natural talent that he's immune to the Royals "development" process. [Reply]
